The Traffic Engineer will manage and supervise the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates. This position also serves as TEDD’s liaison to the Highway Design Division, the Office of Structures, and District Project Development teams, coordinating all TCD-related engineering designs and documentation.The Traffic Engineer manages multiple projects, ensuring designs conform to all federal and MDOT State Highway Administration standards and procedures. This role actively participates in scheduled reviews and partnering meetings and is accountable for the timely submission of all project deliverables. The position also provides training, guidance, and coaching to in-house designers, technicians, and engineers working on TCD and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) designs. Minimum Qualifications: Education: Possession of a bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university.Experience: Four (4) years of experience in professional engineering.Selective Qualification: Two (2) years of experience in traffic control device design, transportation engineering, and/or highway engineering. *This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).Preferred Qualification: The ideal candidate should possess the following: Knowledge in the design and review of traffic control device plans.Working knowledge of TEDD TCD Design Manual, ITS Design Manual, the MD Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MdMUTCD), American Association of Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Policy on Geometric Design, AASHTO Roadside Design Guide, Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), National Electrical Manufacturer’s Association (NEMA), National Electric Code (NEC), National Electric Safety Code (NESC), Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR), and Maryland Vehicle Law.
