The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) invites you to apply today to be considered for a position that provides customer service to the citizens of Maryland every day. This is an MTA position-specific recruitment for a generic job classification.  The resulting list of eligibles will be used under TSHRS to staff this MTA position or function only. You will need to reapply for any future generic or job specific recruitment for this job classification.

The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is recruiting for a Transit Field Inspector.

The Transit Field Inspector responds to light rail incidents and accidents. They coordinate with light rail control when trains are disabled and when emergency issues arise. The transit field inspector is responsible for the planning, directing, coordinating and overseeing all functions with regards to the operation and monitoring of service for light rail, including general operations, drivers/operators, equipment and our transit facilities.

This position will provide day to day monitoring and guidance across light rail service, while also monitoring, investigating, and developing solutions to address a variety of operational and administrative issues.

This position primarily engages in the management of light rail service by monitoring operators for compliance of MTA rules and procedures and the delivery of transit service. This position will also provide back-up support to Metro and Bus Supervision.

Additional responsibilities include the delivery of safe, reliable public transportation and other required duties as assigned.

The current vacancy is located in Baltimore City, Maryland.

Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.

Experience: Five (5) years of experience in a transit system and/or transportation operation. *Two (2) years of experience must have been in a supervisory capacity. *This statement contains a selective qualification, which is more focused in scope than the minimum qualifications for this classification. Selective qualifications are utilized when the position requires specific or additional bona fide occupational qualifications (i.e., knowledge, skill, or ability).

SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION:

1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in Transportation, Business Administration, Management, or a related field may be substituted for the experience at a rate of thirty credit hours for each year of the required experience, for up to two years of the experience. 

2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience involving staff work related to the administration of rules, regulations, policies, procedures and processes, or overseeing or coordinating unit operations or functioning as a staff assistant on a year-for-year basis for the required education and experience. If you held more than one (1) position at the same employer, please list each position that you held and the length of time that you held each position.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

1. Employees are subject to call-in 24 hours a day and will be required to maintain a reliable communication link for the purpose of emergency call back requirements. 

2. Employees are required to work shifts, evenings, holidays, and weekends. 

3. Employees are required to travel to various locations throughout the MTA service area. 

4. Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with the Code of Federal Regulations 49- Federal Department of Transportation Drug Alcohol Testing Protocols and Federal Transit Administration Alcohol Testing Rules.

Licenses & Certifications:
Employees in this classification are assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.

The incumbent in this position may be a member of a covered bargaining unit.
