The Administrative Director, Director of Hispanic and Latin American Affairs and Caribbean Affairs, supports, advises, and coordinates all activities of the Governor’s Commissions on Hispanic and Latin American Affairs and the Governor’s Commission on Caribbean Affairs. This work includes preparation and coordination of all statewide activities of the Commissions. Leads and coordinates special projects and initiatives.
- General Purpose: Assists in developing and implementing goals, policies, and procedures for the Commission as required in the Executive Order creating the Commission. Provides executive staff support to the Commission in planning and administering Commission initiatives and projects. Participates in and helps to coordinate special projects and initiatives for the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives (GOCI) by working with the various office units.
- Responsibilities: Assists in developing and implementing goals, policies and procedures for the Commission as required in the Executive Order creating the Commission.
- Provides executive staff support to the Commission in planning and administering Commission initiatives and projects.
- Participates in and helps to coordinate special projects and initiatives for GOCI by working with the various office units.
- Leads the day-to-day operations of the Commission office and of staff, volunteers and interns.
- Provides programmatic and logistical assistance to the Commission and subcommittees, including bi-monthly Commission meetings.
- Arranges logistics, and reviews and prepares notices, agendas and minutes for all Commission meetings.
- Responds to inquiries directed to the Commission, handles correspondence for the Commission, and generally serves as a clearinghouse for information regarding issues of interest to constituents.
- Prepares reports including annual and weekly reports as required and/or requested by the Governor and/or supervisors within the Governor’s Office of Community Initiatives.
- Appears as the Commission’s representative before State, federal and local officials to advise and discuss the needs and concerns of the Hispanic and Caribbean communities in Maryland.
- Maintains liaison with other State agencies, boards and commissions.
- Develops and promotes public education and awareness of issues and concerns of the Hispanic/Latin American and Caribbean communities in Maryland.
- Oversees the maintenance and update of the Commission’s web page and social media with the Communications Outreach Coordinator.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree
- At least 3 years of experience implementing programs impacting the Hispanic, Latin, and/or Caribbean community as an executive or similar role
- Spanish fluency (i.e., bilingual)
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion in all matters
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office software
- Flexibility to work outside of regular business hours, as needed
- Reliable transportation

1. Bachelor's degree in a certain field such as Hispanic, Latino, and/or Caribbean Studies or Political Science
2. At least 3 years of experience implementing programs impacting the Hispanic, Latin, and/or Caribbean community as an executive or similar role in a government or political setting
Salary : $84,000 - $94,000
