Through Community Education courses, taught by MICA's excellent faculty, adult artists can build skills and develop confidence in a variety of fine arts / design disciplines. Introductory courses provide the foundation for learning techniques and concepts while advanced courses encourage students to further explore their creativity. Design professionals can advance their knowledge through MICA's Professional Practice course in the areas of graphic design and web design, advertising, and creative entrepreneurship. Real-world issues are discussed, and innovative projects are assigned to provide a well- rounded, meaningful experience aimed at preparing students for challenges that are faced in art and design careers.Summary of Essential Functions : Serve in the role of classroom instructor for Community Education / Professional Practice programsEssential Duties & Responsibilities : Deliver specific content as related to the course assignedDeliver content that is designed specifically for an adult audiencePrepare and submit a syllabus to the Academic Coordinator within stated deadlinesExercise classroom management, interventions and support as neededKeep record of student progress and grades in alignment with MICA's faculty handbookKeep accurate attendance recordsSupervise students at all times during scheduled classPerform other related duties as assignedKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Knowledge of specific art or design content area and assessment and critique strategiesSkills in material and tool use specific to the courseAbility to deliver scaffolded content to a variety of learners, and adapt to individual needsMinimum qualifications : Bachelor's DegreeDemonstrated experience teaching or equivalentAs a maker / artist / designer / entrepreneur in the course contentPreferred qualifications : Master's Degree in related fieldReporting to this position : noneConditions of Employment : Background check, finger printingWork evenings and / or weekends as neededPhysical demands and work environment : The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Physical Demands : While performing the duties of job, the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; talk or hear. The noise level in the work environment is usually (minimal, moderate, or high).Required training : Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
