Job Title: Computer Technician II
Department: Technology
Division: Technology Services
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports to: Lead Computer Technician
Work Schedule: 35 hours/week; 12 months/year; M - F / 8:30 to 4:30
Union: SEIU Local 500
Grade: 6
Hourly Range: $26.21 - $32.75
General purpose:
The Computer Technician II is responsible for providing advanced technical support for computer systems, hardware, software, and network issues. This position involves diagnosing and resolving complex problems, performing system installations, upgrades, and maintenance, and supporting end-users to ensure optimal system performance. The role may also
include mentoring junior technicians and contributing to IT project implementations.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Provide technical support to administrative/academic computers
  • Install, diagnose, repair, and resolve hardware and software issues on desktops, laptops, mobile and smart devices.
  • Manage and maintain operating systems, computer images, ensuring updates and patches are applied timely.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and performance optimization on IT equipment.
  • Provide Level 2 support for end-user issues escalated by the helpdesk team.
  • Install, configure, and support printers and other peripherals.
  • Manage asset inventory, ensuring accurate records of IT equipment and licenses.
  • Backup for System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, including FAQs, guides, and system configurations.
  • Train end-users on best practices for using IT systems securely and effectively.
  • Work closely with other IT staff to implement technology solutions and improvements.
  • Provide in-person customer service to faculty, staff and students
  • Provide help desk support as needed
  • Provide support for data back up and archive
  • Keep appraised of updates, new systems that will affect smart phone and tablets
  • Following up with clients to ensure the problem is resolved.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Familiarity with hardware components, troubleshooting techniques, and system diagnostics tools.
  • Experience with ticketing systems, Active Directory and Office 365 administration.
  • Ability to multi-task
Minimum qualifications:
  • Associate’s degree in; Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2–4 years of hands-on experience in IT support or a related role.
  • Proficiency with Windows and macOS operating systems.
  • Familiarity with hardware components, troubleshooting techniques, and system diagnostics tools.
  • Microsoft 365 Certified
  • Apple Certified
  • Knowledge of basic networking concepts, including TCP/IP, DNS, and DHCP.
  • Excellent understanding of various smart phones, tablets and other devices
  • Experience with printer deployment, installation, setup and maintenance
  • Understanding of shared volumes
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior experience working in a higher education or large institution
  • Understanding of Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Understanding of basic audio design and video software
Reporting to this position: No direct reports

  • Work environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal.
  • Required training: Handbook orientation, Anti-Harassment, Hazard Communication, Emergency Plans & Fire Prevention, Personal Protection Equipment.
