iLEAD: Community Assistant, Summer Pre-College

General purpose: MICA's summer PreCollege Art and Design Program is a 2- 4 week intensive college-level experience designed to help participants make the leap from thinking like a high school art student to thinking like an artist making art that reflects a new level of skill and personal vision, communicating ideas about art in daily critiques, and building a professional portfolio of work. PreCollege is designed for rising juniors and seniors. In conjunction with MICA's Mission and Vision, our program provides a welcoming environment for all students through an inclusive community that values students of all races and ethnicities, sexual orientations and expressions, creative abilities, religious faiths, political affiliations, and socio-economic backgrounds. Community Assistants (CAs) assist with managing all residential components of the program and model and facilitate a healthy, welcoming, and inclusive community. CAs host programs, and supervise Pre-College students.

Summary Of Essential Functions

• Support all residential and community aspects of the PreCollege program while living on campus in residence with other program staff and students
• Be on call throughout the duration of the program, including evenings and weekends, and assist with any student needs as they arise
• Assist with the successful implementation of the PreCollege programming. The variety of tasks associated with this position involves administrative, clerical, physical, organizational, and leadership skills
  
  

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Work with the Pro Staff to plan, implement, and participate in social, cultural, and artistic programming that addresses student interests and needs. These events may take place in the evenings or on weekends
• Model, implement,t and enforce Pre-College program policies, rules, and regulations
• Assist with all student move-in, and move-out activities, including welcoming families, assisting with moving items, helping to clean rooms, and answering any questions
• Work with Pro Staff to ensure a safe and positive residential experience for students
• Facilitate and encourage students to develop and maintain healthy interpersonal relationships, and personal wellness, and provide support and guidance as needed
• Provide support, interventions, and referrals when appropriate for individual student needs
• Model and enforce PreCollege program policies, rules, and regulations and act as an ambassador for the program
• Perform other related duties as assigned
  
  

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

• Ability to maintain excellent and mature judgment
• Excellent written, verbal and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of art and design processes and disciplines
• Knowledge of MICA's campus, equipment, resources and inclusive community values
• Ability to manage others, provide leadership and guidance as necessary
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency and accuracy
• Consistently be able to implement program policies and regulations while serving as a role model of appropriate behavior
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be a currently enrolled MICA Undergraduate student at the time of employment
• Must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5
• Must be in good conduct standing with the college
• Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism and confidentiality
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in working with youth in a formal job setting or volunteer role
• Skills/experience in conflict resolution, de-escalation, and decision-making in emergent situations
  
  

Compensation

• 40 hours maximum per week.
• $15 per hour
• Housing is provided and required for the CA position
• Meals provided while on shift for in-person program
  
  

Conditions of Employment

• Satisfactory CJIS Fingerprint and background check
• Available evenings and weekends
• Must live in residence for the duration of training and program dates
• Full availability for the following dates/times (this includes mandatory training): Move-In: June 20 - June 21, 2025. Training: July 23 - July 27, 2025. Program Starts: June 30, 2025. Program Ends: July 25, 2025. Final Clean-up: July 26 - July 27, 2025.
• Cannot hold other positions on campus for the duration of the program due to student employees being limited to 40 hours per week in the summer and the demanding nature of the role
• This position is contingent upon participant enrollment in the PreCollege program
