General Purpose: MICA is seeking a skilled Social Media Manager to create, publish, and manage organic content across MICA's flagship social media channels, enhancing brand presence, engaging key audiences, and promoting the College's mission and strategic priorities through collaborative storytelling and creative marketing campaigns.
Summary of Essential Functions:
- Create and publish visually compelling and strategic content that supports institutional goals and tells MICA's story authentically.
- Develop and execute social media strategies to increase engagement, audience growth, and brand awareness across MICA's flagship social media channels.
- Monitor and engage with MICA's social media community, fostering positive interactions and timely responses.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Create and publish original, authentic, and visually compelling content (including copy, graphics, photos, and short-form video) across platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging platforms.
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive social media content calendar aligned with institutional priorities and marketing campaigns.
- Collaborate with the Strategic Communications team and other campus partners to identify and amplify stories that showcase MICA's students, faculty, alumni, and institutional impact.
- Monitor social media channels daily, engaging with followers and responding to inquiries, comments, and direct messages in a timely, brand-aligned manner.
- Track and analyze social media metrics, generating reports to evaluate performance, inform content strategy, and identify areas for growth.
- Stay current with social media trends, platform updates, and best practices, making recommendations to enhance MICA's social media presence.
- Serve as the primary administrator for MICA's flagship social media accounts, ensuring consistent brand voice, accuracy, and alignment with MICA's strategic goals.
- Collaborate with campus partners to provide guidance on social media best practices and help coordinate social media efforts across the institution.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of major social media platforms, including Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and X.
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills with the ability to craft compelling content tailored to various platforms and audiences.
- Ability to create visually appealing content, including basic graphic design and short-form video editing.
- Proficiency with social listening, social media media management and scheduling tools (such as Meltwater, Sprout Social and Hootsuite).
- Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
- Proficiency with project management software, such as Asana.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Understanding of social media analytics and the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Commitment to representing MICA's mission, values and welcoming community in digital storytelling.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2 years of professional experience managing social media accounts for a brand, institution, or organization.
- Experience creating integrated multimedia content for social media, including graphics, photography, and video.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, or other design tools.
- Demonstrated understanding of social media best practices and trends.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in higher education, arts, or cultural organizations.
- Familiarity with social media advertising.
- Knowledge of accessibility best practices for digital content.
Reporting to this position: No direct reports; may oversee student workers, freelancers or interns.
