Reports to (Position Title) : Information Literacy & Instructional Design Librarian
Work Schedule : Casual, Part-time, Evenings and Weekends, Friday and Saturday shifts required
General purpose : To support MICA's diverse community of artists and designers by providing personalized writing tutoring services and fostering an inclusive and supportive environment that enhances written communication skills, critical thinking, and creative expression.
Summary of Essential Functions :
- Offer personalized guidance on a range of writing projects, adapting to the unique needs of each student.
- Create a welcoming environment that respects and embraces diversity, encouraging students to express their unique perspectives and voices.
- Provide constructive feedback to students, enabling them to reflect and grow their writing and critical thinking abilities.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities :
Offer personalized guidance on a range of writing projects, adapting to the unique needs of each student, including those learning remotely or from international backgrounds.Create a welcoming environment that respects and embraces diversity, encouraging students to express their unique perspectives and voices.Provide constructive feedback to students, enabling them to reflect and grow their writing and critical thinking abilities.Lead by example in creating a culturally responsive and accessible learning environment, supporting and uplifting our students' diverse experiences and identities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIA , international students, students with disabilities, and first-generation and non-traditional students.Partner with MICA's academic community to share strategies and insights that enhance student success, focusing on equity and inclusion, such as equitable assessment practices and inclusive curriculum development.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :

Bachelor's Degree in English, Creative Writing, Art History, or related fieldsDemonstrated experience working in diverse, multicultural settings, with evidence of cultural humility practices and understanding of how cultural backgrounds impact writing and communicationA track record of supporting diverse student populations, including those with learning disabilities and English language learning studentsExceptional writing, editing, and interpersonal communication abilitiesPreferred Qualifications :
A Master's degree or current enrollment in a relevant graduate programTESOL / TEFL Certification or similar qualifications in ESL / EFL teaching methodologiesPrior experience in tutoring or teaching, especially within higher education or art and design contextsBackground in living, studying, or working in multicultural environments, providing a deeper understanding of cross-cultural communication and engagementReporting to this position : None
