Maryland Masonic Homes located in Cockeysville, MD is seeking a full-time RN Assisted Director of Nursing (ADON) to work side by side with our Director of Nursing. The idea candidate must have at least 3-5 working years experience as a ADON. Must have experience working as a ADON in a retirement community or SNF nursing home. Must have extensive knowledge of PCC. Must have a current First Aide, BLS CPR Certificate. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active license to practice as a Licensed Nurse in Maryland. Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times, hostile people within the facility.
Essential Duties/Major Accountabilities:
- Functions as the Acting Director of Nursing in the absence of the Director.
- Assists the Director of Nursing in the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department, in accordance with current rules, regulation, and guidelines that govern the long-term care facility.
- Assists with the human resources of the department including but not limited to staffing, disciplinary action, documentation, performance management, training, attendance, scheduling, employee payroll time approval, and delegation of departmental responsibilities.
- Participates in the developing, maintaining, and updating of written policies and procedures that govern the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
- Assists in developing methods to coordinate the delivery of Nursing services with other resident services to ensure the continuity of the residents total regimen of care.
- Ensures that all nursing service personnel are following their respective job descriptions. Participates in developing, maintaining and periodically updating the written job descriptions for each level of nursing personnel.
- Performs administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charts, etc., as necessary.
- Ensures that reference material (Federal and State Regulations, etc.), maintained at the nurses stations is current. Recommendations to the DON written material that will assist the Nursing department in meeting the day-to-day needs of the resident.
- Participates in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
- Develops and implements a nursing service organization structure.
- Makes written and oral reports/recommendations to the DON as necessary/required concerning the operations of the Nursing Department.
- Periodically reviews the departments policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc and makes recommendations for revisions to the DON.
- In the absence of the Director, or as assigned, serves on, participates in, and attends various committees of the facility. (i.e. Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Budget, Quality Assurance & Assessment, etc.).
- Participates in the development, maintenance, implementation, and updating of the written policies and procedures for the administration, storage, and control of medications and supplies.
- Participation in care plan meetings in absence of Unit Manager.
- Responsible for directing and gathering information for the weekly Risk Meeting.
- Responsible for development, maintenance, and implementation of the facility Quality Assurance Performance Improvement program.
- Perform audits of nursing processes as needed.
- Monitors monthly completion of pharmacy reviews.
- Monitors resident assessments and care plans for accuracy, appropriateness, and relevancy to the residents needs. Ensures an interdisciplinary team effort in developing and implementing resident care plans.
- Evaluates and implements recommendations from established committees as they may pertain to nursing services.
- Assists the DON in determining the staffing needs of the Nursing Department.
- Recommends to the DON the number and level of nursing personnel to be employed.
- Ensures that a sufficient number of licensed practical and/or registered nurses are available for each tour of duty to ensure that quality care is maintained.
- Ensures that a sufficient number of nursing assistants are available for each tour of duty to ensure that routine nursing care is provided to meet the daily nursing care needs of each resident.
- Develops work assignments and schedule duty hours, and/or assist nursing supervisory staff in completing and performing such tasks.
- Delegates to the Nurse Supervisors and Staff Nurses the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties.
- Assists the DON in preparing performance evaluations as directed.
- Make daily rounds of the Nursing Department to ensure that all nursing service personnel are performing their work assignments in accordance with acceptable nursing standards. Reports findings to the DON.
- Monitors absenteeism to ensure that an adequate number of nursing care personnel are on duty at all times. Reports problem areas to the Director.
- Reviews complaints and grievances made or filed by department personnel.
- Makes appropriate reports to the DON as required or as may be necessary.
- Ensures that disciplinary action is administered fairly and without regard to race, color, creed, nation, origin, age, sex, religion, handicap, or marital status.
- Interprets the Departments policies and procedures to personnel, residents, visitors and government agencies as necessary.
- Provides the DON with information relative to the nursing needs of the residents and the Nursing Departments ability to meet those needs.
- Reviews nurses notes to ensure that they are informative and descriptive of the nursing care being provided and that they reflect the residents response to the care. Ensure that care plan is being followed.
- Makes rounds with physicians as necessary.
- Ensures that attending physicians record and sign progress notes, physicians orders, etc., on a timely basis and in accordance with current regulations.
- Schedules daily rounds to observe residents and to determine if nursing needs are being met.
- Monitors medication passes and treatment schedules to assure that medications are being administered as ordered and that treatments are provided as scheduled.
- Provides direct nursing care as necessary.
- Reports problem areas to the DON. Assists in developing and implementing corrective action.
- Monitors utilization of restraints and protective devices, and ensures that their usage is minimal.
- Participates in the development, planning, conducting and scheduling of timely in-service training classes that ensure a well-educated Nursing Department.
- Provides leadership training that includes the administrative and supervisory principles essential for Staff Nurses and Supervisors.
- Encourages Staff Nurses and Supervisors to attend and participate in outside training programs. Schedules times as appropriate.
- Attends and participates in continuing educational programs designed to maintain knowledge of current professional nursing practice, as well as to maintain current Nursing licensure.
- Monitors Nursing personnel to assure that they are following established safety regulations in the use of equipment and supplies.
- Ensures the Nursing work areas (i.e. nurses stations, medicine preparations rooms, etc.), are maintained in a clean and sanitary manner.
- Ensures that all resident care rooms, treatment areas, etc., are maintained in a clean safe, and sanitary manner.
- Ensures that all Nursing personnel follow established departmental policies and procedures.
- Participates in the preparation and planning of the Nursing Departments budget and submits to the DON for his/her review, recommendations, and/or approval.
- Keeps abreast of economic conditions/situations and recommends to the DON adjustments in nursing services that ensure that continued ability to provide quality care.
- Recommends to the DON the equipment needs of the Nursing Department.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all resident care information.
- Monitors nursing care to assure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect; and ensures that all nursing care is provided in privacy.
- Ensures that all nursing personnel are knowledgeable of the residents rights and responsibilities.
- Reviews complaints and grievances made by the resident and make a written/oral report to the DON indicating what action(s) were taken to resolve the complaint or grievance.
Compensation Range: $105,00.000 - $110,000.00 based on experience
