POSITION DUTIES
The English Learners Assessment Coordinator is a professional position which serves as coordinator for the English Learners programs, curriculum development and assessments. This position is responsible for providing statewide leadership, management, and programmatic support to state and local programs that support English learners (ELs) and ensure compliance with State standards and Federal and State laws and policies.
Responsibilities Include
Education: A Master’s degree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five years of administrative or teaching experience in, or affiliated with, an education program; including two years of experience in coordinating or administering an English Learners program.

POSITION DUTIES

This position is responsible for providing statewide leadership, management, and programmatic support to state and local programs that support English learners (ELs) and ensure compliance with State standards and Federal and State laws and policies.
Responsibilities Include
- Providing expert resources and guidance in the area of EL accountability.
- Providing assistance to local education agencies (LEAs) in analyzing their data on EL assessment and demographics.
- Providing training in the implementation of English Language Proficiency (ELP) assessment.
- Completing all ELP accountability data requirements for federal and state reporting.
- Promoting programs for parents and communities of English Learners.
- Providing professional development to local ESOL supervisors.
Education: A Master’s degree or the equivalent of 36 credit hours of post-baccalaureate course work from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five years of administrative or teaching experience in, or affiliated with, an education program; including two years of experience in coordinating or administering an English Learners program.
Notes
- Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree and 7 years of experience directly related to the position option for the required education.
- Candidates may substitute the possession of a Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the position option for one year of the required experience.
- The required field of education and experience are unique for each option and are established by MSDE in accordance with Education Article, Section 2-104 of the Annotated Code of Maryland. The specific education and experience qualifications for each position are on record in the Office of Human Resources Services.
- Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Education Program classifications or Education Program specialty codes in the Education field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience and education.
Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following preferred qualification(s). Include clear and specific information on your application regarding your qualifications.
- Knowledge of educational assessment programs and online educational assessments.
- Experience working in a State of District office of education assessments.
- Experience in providing technical assistance with assessment programs.
- Experience with Managing an education program or Project Management experience.
- Experience with executive-level reporting.
- Applicants must consent to a State Police Investigation (fingerprinting) as a routine procedure for all employees with this Agency.
- Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
