The Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is currently seeking a Senior Parks/General Maintenance Worker to perform trades and provide general assistance to our skilled trades workers in our trades shops (e.g., carpentry, painting, welding, program support) this would include building maintenance, parks, and other amenities. Incumbents will be responsible for maintenance, minor repair, and operation of specific equipment related to facility and park maintenance.
This is park/general maintenance work at an experienced level, involving operation of most equipment and specialized assignments requiring training and experience. Under general supervision, performs general and some skilled building/park maintenance work involving moderate responsibility, complexity and variety. Incumbents of this class regularly perform assignments as part of a group but may occasionally work alone. Assignments are made in terms of specific instructions. The incumbent carries out the work in adherence to established policies and procedures, resolves routine work problems by selecting and applying appropriate guideline(s) and brings new or uncommon problems to the supervisor, or more experienced skilled trades worker for guidance or resolution. The work is subject to check in process and upon completion for conformance with instructions and other guidelines, quality, quantity, timeliness, teamwork, customer service and other factors. Interact with people inside the organization(primarily) to exchange routine information. Perform other duties as assigned.
This position works at the Bock Road Maintenance Facility in Fort Washington, MD with a Monday-Friday, 6am-2:45 pm work schedule. The work schedule and location, however, may be changed based on program needs.
Please note that the salary above represents earning potential. The budgeted salary range for this position is $38,083 - $52,764. Salary is commensurate with experience.

Examples of Important Duties
- The incumbent will use a variety of hand tools and equipment. carpenters, painters, welders, and program support teams.
- Loads and unloads tools, equipment, supplies and materials on trucks. Assist in setting up tools and equipment at work sites. Carries tools, supplies and materials (e.g. cement, bricks, lumber, steel, paint) to skilled workers during the course of work at work sites; cleans and sharpens tools.
- Maintains inventory of equipment and tools on assigned vehicles and shop.
- Patrols work sites to pick up debris and trash. Uses sustainability practices of recycling, disposal and energy conservation while performing duties.
- Provides routine maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles as needed or in accordance with schedule; troubleshoots equipment as needed.
- Incumbent is held responsible for effective results; work is evaluated in terms of quality, quantity timeliness, teamwork, customer service and such other factors as use of skill ingenuity in overcoming technical and non-technical problems.
- Utilizes personal protection equipment such as foot protection, hand protection, ear protection and protective eye wear while performing duties.
- Interacts with people inside and outside the organization, including the public, to exchange information, coordinate, obtain agreement, gain compliance or achieve other desired actions.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge of (1) building or park maintenance. (2) safety. (3) general maintenance.
- Skill in operation of (1) fork lift; (2) power tools; (3) hand tools; (4) trucks and /or truck trailer combinations( Non- CDL) (5) * forklift;
- Responsible for the quantity and quality of work assignments.
- Skill in problem solving to select, organize and logically process relevant information (verbal, numerical or abstract) to solve a problem. Examples include assistance in providing routine maintenance and repair of equipment.
- Skill in communication to understand verbal and written information (including facts, description and ideas) and to express such information so that others will understand.
- Pass Commission medical examination.
- 18 years of age.
- Two (2) years of experience in groundskeeping, building maintenance or park maintenance, semi-skilled trade work (HVACR, plumbing, painting, masonry, electrical, carpentry).
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted, which together total two (2) years.
- Valid driver's license in accordance with both State and Commission rules and regulations. Driver's license must be unencumbered by restrictions, revocations, suspensions, or points that could limit the employee's ability to drive Commission vehicles or perform driving duties required of their position.
