Overview
The Maryland Certified Peer Specialist plays a vital role in providing support and guidance to individuals and families seeking support for mental, substance, and behavioral health recovery.
Position
The position of the Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist (CPRS):
-Utilizes lived experience to foster hope, empowerment, and resilience among consumers/participants. The CPRS will serve participants to provide self-directed, mentorship, linkages, navigation, and support to individuals and families in Baltimore City
-Serves as a peer team member, promoting health and wellness, early intervention, treatment, and recovery.
The Role is centered on person-centered service and navigating recovery-oriented systems of care.
-The CPRS will actively participate in advocacy, leadership, outreach, and behavioral health policy efforts by engaging community members and collaborating with local organizations.
Duties
Under the direction of the Program Manager and Maryland Registered Peer Supervisor, RPS, the CPRS will:
-Conduct community outreach
-Engage and provide intensive individualized person-centered support
-Provide one-on-one peer support to individuals in need by self-referral for mental, substance, and/or behavioral health or other related conditions.
-Utilize motivational interviewing techniques
-Develop and maintain a recovery support service plan
-Encourage participants to actively participate in their health and wellness journey
-Identify and address other social determinants as determined by the participant.
-Empower and assist participants in self-advocacy, setting and achieving personal goals surrounding recovery capital.
-Advocate for and with participants within various systems, for resources and appropriate care and support.
-Link participants based on need to health and wellness supports, which includes, but is not limited to, emotional wellness, crisis, and other behavioral health and recovery supports.
-Link participants to community-based services such as recovery residences, recovery centers, family, reentry, and other post-planning as needed.
-Accompany participants to various appointments as needed with the use of transportation supports provided by the hiring entity.
-Attend and/or facilitate meetings focused on behavioral health efforts that promote resiliency.
-Actively participate in advocacy, leadership, outreach, and behavioral health policy efforts by engaging community members and collaborating with local organizations.
- Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions and progress in accordance with organizational policies.
-Participate in recovery oriented system of care meetings.
- Participate in ongoing advocacy, training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills in behavioral health field.
Requirements
The CPRS:
-has a minimum of two years of lived and professional experience in the Maryland Peer Recovery Workforce and/or behavioral health field.
-* has an Active Maryland Certified Peer Recovery Specialist Certification, *verifiable by the Maryland Addiction and Behavioral- Health Professional Certification Board, MABPCB. All certification documents are required at the time of interview and/or hire.
-has access to their own transportation with verifiable insurance. Personal vehicles in use within working hours will not transport participants. However, it may be necessary to meet participants in designated areas such as the office, community, hospitals, clinics, treatment, recovery residences, housing, family centers, DSS, Justice centers, and other public areas.
-Professionalism-serving within the Maryland CPRS Code of Ethics.
-Must be able to serve in rotating schedules, which may include holidays and weekends.

-Proficient computer skills, not limited to Word, Powerpoint, Excel, Mircosoft Teams and Google
-Organizing, meeting, planning and presentation skills

Pay: $26.00 - $30.00 per hour
