Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
- Working closely with students and families throughout a highly individualized college application process
- Writing compelling, personalized letters of recommendation for assigned caseload of students
- Assisting students with comprehensive college applications, including essay composition and interview preparation
- Co-teaching college guidance classes to sophomores, juniors and seniors
- Participating in and planning after-school meetings and evening programs for families on topics related to the college application process (financial and merit aid, standardized testing, etc.)
- Overseeing the school’s internship program for rising seniors
- Establishing and maintaining ongoing relationships with admission officers including traveling to college campuses, hosting admissions representatives at Marymount, and attending conferences
- Representing Marymount in professional associations (NACAC, ACCIS, etc.)
- Acting as PSAT and AP Coordinator
- Managing digital college counseling platforms (Scoir, College Kickstart, Common Application, UCAS)
- Bachelor’s degree required; master’s and/or counseling degree preferred
- Strong candidates will have substantial experience in a highly selective college admissions environment (5 years) and/or college counseling in an independent school (5 years)
- Ability to manage sensitive information with discretion and high ethical standards, while guiding students and families with expertise and confidence
- Deep knowledge base of U.S. colleges/universities (knowledge of overseas programs is a plus), admissions policies, financial aid and standardized testing
- Extraordinary communication, interpersonal, organizational, and decision-making skills
- A commitment to equity and belonging for all students
- A warm sense of humor, empathy and kindness, as the role requires working with adolescents and their families at an important moment of transition
