What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic position at Marysville Schools?
REPORTS TO: Transportation Director
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Regular, full time
FLSA STATUS: Non-exempt
POSITION SUMMARY: Maintain the school district's vehicles.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Establish an efficient and effective system of routine automotive maintenance and preventive care.
- Diagnose, overhaul and repair the district’s automotive equipment.
- Requisition parts and other supplies.
- Maintain a current inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Assist the Transportation Director with developing the transportation budget.
- Prepare all buses to pass OSHP spot and annual inspections.
- Maintain high standards of safety and good housekeeping in all work areas.
- Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
- Attend bus inspection/bus repair workshops as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Transportation Director.
- High School diploma or GED preferred.
- Valid Ohio driver’s license and commercial license with class B, passenger, air brakes and school bus endorsement.
- Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
- Ability to operate the equipment listed below.
- Able to plan for the servicing and inspection of the vehicles.
- Mechanical skills appropriate for assessing, maintaining and repairing the vehicles.
- Ability to discriminate color coded wires.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
- Hand tools, such as wrenches.
- Power tools, such as drills.
- Air impact and ratchets.
- Pressure washer.
- Welder.
- Forklift.
- Lubricating equipment.
- Other related tools and equipment.
- All district vehicles, including busses, vans and trucks.
- On call for overtime service.
- Exposure to loud noise.
- Exposure to toxic substances such as liquefied petroleum and exhaust fumes.
- Exposure to flammable and combustible materials
- Regular requirement to work in a confined area.
- Requirement to road test vehicles.
- Regular requirement to lift, push, pull and carry tools and equipment up to 75 lbs.
- Regular requirement to stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, handle, read, speak, hear.
- Potential exposure to blood or other bodily fluids and tissue.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Length of Employment: One Year Limited Contract
- Salary: Based on current classified salary schedule with appropriate experience and training
