What are the responsibilities and job description for the HR Manager position at Maschoff Brennan?
Maschoff Brennan is a growing intellectual property and complex litigation law firm with offices in Utah, California, and New York. We are seeking an HR Manager to join us in our downtown Salt Lake City, UT office. Reporting to the Executive Director, the incumbent will manage firm-wide HR processes including recruitment and hiring, payroll and compensation, benefits, wellness, performance management, employee relations, and more.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage semi-monthly payroll including reviewing and approving timesheets, inputting payroll data, troubleshooting and resolving errors, working with carriers on EDI file transfers, making 401(k) and HSA deposits, etc.
- Manage employee benefits including annual open enrollment, daily benefits administration, and wellness program.
- Oversee the performance evaluation process including collecting and compiling feedback and conducting staff performance evaluations with managers and attorneys.
- Serve as a confidential sounding board for staff and attorneys and manage employee relations issues as needed.
- Coordinate recruitment for staff and attorneys including job postings, tracking of candidates, conducting interviews and/or reference checks, etc.
- Oversee employee onboarding including new hire paperwork, background check process, coordinating trainings, etc.
- Create and maintain records including employee files, department records, metrics and benchmarking data, etc.
- Oversee day-to-day office administration including supervision of office coordinator(s) and/or receptionist(s).
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of human resource policies and procedures required.
- Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations required. Knowledge of Utah, California, and New York-specific laws strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of ADP Workforce Now preferred.
- Ability to professionally handle highly confidential information, adhering to legal and ethical policies, required.
- Strong ability to problem-solve complex issues required.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment required.
- Ability to travel to other offices as needed.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
- 4 years' directly related HR experience required.
- Experience with payroll processing multi-state payroll required.
- Experience working in a professional services firm preferred.
- PHR and/or SHRM-CP certifications preferred.
