Job Summary
This position is a full-time position with the Mashpee Public Schools. Approximately 25% of this position is serving in the role of Assistant Athletic Director/Administrative for Mashpee Middle-High School, and the remaining 75% of this position is serving in the role of Athletic Trainer for the Mashpee Middle-High School.
Qualifications
- Must be licensed by the Board of Registration of Allied Health Professions
- Must have current CPR/First Aid/AED certification
- Must be able to work cooperatively and independently in a school environment
Terms of Employment
- 200 days, 180 student days, and an additional twenty (20) days to be scheduled with advance approval from the Athletic Director and Mashpee Middle-High School Principal.
- 8-hour workday -12:00PM -8:00 PM (when practices/games have ended) when school is in session.
- Daily work start and end times may be adjusted by the Athletic Director and Mashpee Middle-High School Principal based on the time of year. Any changes to the daily work schedule will be communicated with at least 24 hours advance notice.
- The position may include working some weekends and/or holidays.
Performance Responsibilities
Mashpee Middle-High School Athletic Trainer Responsibilities:
- Providing medical coverage to all middle and high school athletic events and practices
- Setting up supplies and waters for each sports team for games/practices, getting the golf cart out for Fall and Winter seasons, and ensuring it is stocked for athletic events
- Taping, bracing, or padding all student athletes (visiting student athletes as well) who may need it before all practices or games.
- Stocking and distributing team med kits for each team to bring with them when traveling for each season
- Providing all coaches with emergency contact information and medical concerns for each of their athletes
- Maintaining documentation of all sports-related injuries/illnesses of each student athlete through injury tracking software (Sportsware program)
- Entering new athletes’ information into Sportsware program
- Documenting each student athlete’s treatments and progress made for each injury sustained
- Keeping all medical documentation for each student athlete (by season) from MDs, PCP (clearance from an injury, paperwork from any MD visit)
- Completing a pupil accident form for each injury where a student athlete is removed from play and submitting it to the school nurse for final review by the school principal
- Evaluating all sports-related injuries during games and practices, or injuries student-athletes sustain during athletic seasons or out of season
- Performing rehabilitations and treatments for injured student athletes
- Developing strengthening home exercise programs for the more common injuries or designing specific home-exercise plans for specific student athlete’s injuries
- Performing the monthly inspections of the Athletic Department’s AEDs
- Performing an inventory every year for medical supplies needed for the Athletic Training Room and creating a list of items needed for purchase
- In collaboration with the Mashpee School Nurse Leader, District Physician Consultant, and Mashpee Middle-High School nurse, the Athletic Trainer will create and update Athletic Training Practices and Procedures for Mashpee Middle-High School annually, along with any other medical policy (COVID included) that affects the Athletic Department
- Creating and updating Emergency Action Plans for all athletic venues in the event of a medical emergency needing EMS and personnel designated roles
- Collecting/monitoring concussion data and sending it to the State yearly
- Updating student athletes’ requirements for each season and checking eligibility based on up-to-date physicals, up-to-date ImPACT tests, and taking the NFHS learn concussion and sport course (paperwork)
- Overseeing sports registrations on FamilyID.com for Mashpee Middle-High School
- Input physical dates into FamilyID.com for Mashpee Middle-High School so parents/guardians are notified when student-athletes’ physicals are going to expire
- Administering ImPACT testing before the start of every athletic season
- Contacting parents about student athlete injuries and progress that is being made and whether or not they need to be referred out to the appropriate health professional
- Contacting parents to give them forewarning when student athletes physical will be expiring, separate from FamilyID notification
- Collaborating with the school nurse about student athletes’ injuries, especially concussions (athletic or non-athletic)
- Monitoring gradual return-to-play for all student-athletes returning from a concussion
- For any head injury on top of using Sportsware injury tracking, fill out and submit a pupil accident form and a State authorized report of head injury form to the school nurse
- Contacting doctors’ offices to follow up on student-athletes’ appointments or trying to get them appointments with the appropriate health professional (referrals)
- Monitoring all games and practices for COVID compliance
Assistant Athletic Director/0.3 Administrative Duties (if applicable):
- Inputting athletic schedules into spreadsheets for coaches, teams, etc.
- Maintaining inventory of athletic equipment
- Maintaining inventory of athletic uniforms
- Inputting game paperwork from officials
- Scheduling via the MIAA website and Arbitersports
- Working with Mashpee Middle-High School staff to update the school website as it relates to athletics
- Maintaining up-to-date player rosters
- Working with main office administrative assistants to maintain accurate attendance records for athletics dismissals
- Finalizing awards/letters as they relate to participation by sport
- Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Principal
