JOB SUMMARY
The principal of the Kenneth C. Coombs School will serve as the school’s instructional and operational leader. The principal is expected to promote high-quality instructional practices, passionately enjoy working with children, and believe all students can achieve. As a member of Mashpee Public Schools’ leadership team, the Kenneth C. Coombs School principal has a voice in district initiatives, decision-making, and school-based programming
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Be a strong and fully present relationship builder with students, staff, families, and our community
- Maximize financial and human resources through effective management, strategic planning, and district-wide collaboration
- Ensure a safe, secure, orderly, and well-maintained school environment
- Develop, articulate, and steward a clear vision for learning for all students and implement a strategic plan to accomplish that vision; ensure all stakeholders can articulate the vision
- Promote high-quality, evidenced-based instructional practices that consistently allow for excellent instruction school-wide; promote educator growth through feedback/coaching
- Develop a culture of collegial and professional relationships among staff and students that promotes critical reflection, shared accountability, and continuous improvement
- Collect, analyze, and use multiple sources of data to guide continuous improvement in student achievement, student and staff well-being, and professional development for staff
- Selecting and assigning building staff
- Align the school’s resources, systems, and people around a rigorous instructional program
- Ability to motivate staff, students, and families around the vision of the school
- Clear and effective communication skills for diverse audiences including students, staff, and families
- Well-organized, ability to balance competing priorities and multi-task
- Passion for developing staff’s professional growth, instructional and leadership capacities
- Lead to foster creativity, innovation, effective teamwork, and collaboration
- Productive problem-solving to counter setbacks, initiative to seize opportunities to make change
- Belief in student empowerment and willingness to allow students to play an active role in supporting the school’s vision and climate
- Commitment to the relationship with and service of students and families; while also ensuring a school culture in which stakeholders' voices are heard and valued
- Ability to reflect on how to improve, self-awareness of strengths and weaknesses, willingness to take responsibility for actions and mistakes
- Empathy for the perspectives of students, staff, and stakeholders
- A clear understanding of policies and laws affecting special populations, EL students, and students receiving special education services
- Highly motivated, persistent, and creative educator with an exemplary work ethic
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s Degree in an appropriate field
- DESE Certification as a Principal/Assistant Principal
- Professional experience at the elementary level
- 3-5 years as a school principal/administrator
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required
- Cori and fingerprint clearance are required
