Maintenance Technician
The Lead Maintenance Technician will oversee the maintenance department and coordinate with the plant/location manager to ensure all equipment and facility needs are met efficiently and safely. This role includes hands-on work with heavy equipment, supervising maintenance staff, planning upgrades, and managing repairs and external service contracts.
This position is located in Elkwood, VA.
Duties and Responsibilities of Lead Maintenance Technician:
- Supervise maintenance staff, including planning, assigning, and evaluating work performance.
- Requisition and issue tools, equipment, and supplies related to plant equipment.
- Inspect work areas and production schedules to determine necessary work, materials, equipment, and labor.
- Operate and train staff on equipment such as forklifts, cranes, bulldozers, and graders.
- Perform hands-on maintenance duties as necessary.
- Plan and implement facility and equipment design upgrades and regular maintenance.
Experience and Educational Requirements of Lead Maintenance Technician:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
- Minimum of 5 years of maintenance experience.
- 6 months to 1 year of leadership experience in a relevant role.
Key Competencies of Lead Maintenance Technician:
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Mathematical ability includes calculations involving proportions, percentages, area, and volume.
- Proficient in planning, scheduling, and coordinating team tasks.
- Comfortable using internet research tools and email platforms like Outlook.
- Must complete BFS safety training certification.
Physical Requirements of Lead Maintenance Technician:
- Routine sitting with occasional standing or walking required.
- Ability to lift up-to 50 pounds regularly.
- Frequent climbing, balancing, talking, and hearing required.
- Regular use of hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Occasional exposure to fumes, outdoor weather, and moving mechanical parts.
- Work environment noise level is generally moderate.
