Compliance Officer I – Out of State Unit

Position Summary

The Compliance Officer’s primary responsibility is accurate processing of Out of State (OOS) Compliance Notifications for Massachusetts drivers who incur infractions out of state. Correspondence from other jurisdictions may be received by mail or in electronic form. The core task is accurate application of those notices and/or electronic messages to MA driving records through research and collaboration as needed with counterparts both in Massachusetts and in notifying states. The Compliance Officer will determine eligibility of reinstatement for reciprocity suspensions and ensuring compliance with interstate compacts while providing customer service in a professional, efficient, and courteous manner both telephonically and electronically.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures timely processing of all incoming Out of State Compliance Notifications.
  • Process work items assigned through relevant designated ATLAS work queues; including OOS Suspensions & AAMVA work queues.
  • Interpret OOS notification information for input into ATLAS MA driver record.
  • Provide customer service in a professional, efficient, and courteous manner both telephonically and electronically.
  • Determines eligibility for reinstatement for reciprocity suspensions and ensuring compliance with interstate compacts.
  • Works collaboratively with RMV units, such as the Contact Center, Service Centers, and Driver Control.
  • Collaborates with other states to correct errors and ensure records are accurate and consistent.
  • Perform a variety of credit card transactions and ATLAS cashiering duties.
  • Determines need for a hearing.
  • Escalate work items as necessary.
  • Follows RMV security procedures according to Registry policy and Code of Conduct.
  • Processes data in ATLAS, KODAK ALARIS, FIVE9 and other applications through a PC or scanning environment.
  • Utilizes ATLAS as a case management tool and customer fulfillment application.
  • Reviews driving records to assure compliance with laws regarding suspensions/revocations.
  • Works with supervisor to document and report system issues and error in suspension logic.
  • Responsible for retaining, either by memory or use of laws, regulations, agency information manuals and computer software, all information pertaining to agency rules and regulations, policies, procedures and agency functions.
  • Possesses ability to explain laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, and agency functions accurately and intelligently.
  • Maintains awareness of compliance changes related to MGL, FMCSA, AAMVA, Interstate Compacts and other authorities.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and special projects.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

Applicants must have at least (A) two years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in investigatory, law enforcement or regulatory administration work, or (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.

A Bachelor's or higher degree may be substituted for the required experience.*

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class D Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required.
