Position Summary
MassDOT is looking for a technologically savvy candidate who enjoys field work as a Traffic Data Collection Analyst. The position vacancies are for MassDOT's Walpole, MA and Palmer, MA Traffic Data Collection facilities, but will require travel statewide as necessary to maintain, install, and retrieve data from traffic data collection devices. An ideal candidate would have an interest in all aspects of traffic data collection technologies, be able to work with and diagnose issues with solar panels, traffic collection devices, and other instruments as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Installs and maintains traffic recording equipment to collect traffic volume, speed, classification, and weight data.
- Prepares drawings to illustrate traffic study observations and indicate proposed traffic recording device locations.
- Maintains traffic data records and prepares reports.
- Ability to use various equipment, applications and any other technology needed to support the Traffic Data Collection (TDC) program.
- May supervise field staff in the collection of traffic data including volume, speed, and classification studies.
- May assist the unit supervisors in the operation of the traffic data collection program including testing and troubleshooting of permanent and temporary count station issues.
- May coordinate the training and teaching of traffic data collection staff and external partners in the use of various traffic data collection software and equipment and teach proper techniques to follow MassDOT rules and regulations.
- May review field hose count data and perm station count data (manual & telemetry retrieved) for accuracy and completeness and then electronically processes collected traffic data using proprietary software and uploads to the MS2 site. Completes batch uploads of perm count data via the secure UPACS TMAS site to meet the monthly FHWA deadline.
- May assist other MassDOT departments by providing specification recommendations for installation of traffic data collection stations.
- May assist Supervisors and external contractors in upgrading traffic data collection stations to Telemetry Capability to remotely retrieve data.
This position is eligible for a five-thousand dollar ($5,000) signing bonus (“Signing Bonus”) if you are newly hired at MassDOT. Current MassDOT employees are not eligible for the Signing Bonus. The Signing Bonus will be paid in two parts: 1) $3,000 (less applicable taxes) included in the employee's first paycheck. 2) $2,000 (less applicable taxes) after the successful completion of the employee’s probationary period.
