What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at Mass General Brigham Medical Group?
The Mass General Brigham Medical Group is a system-led operating entity formed by Mass General Brigham to deliver high-quality, low-cost, innovative community-based ambulatory care. This work stems from Mass General Brigham’s unified system strategy to bring healthcare closer to patients while lowering total healthcare costs. The Medical Group provides a wide range of offerings, including primary care, specialty care, behavioral and mental health, and urgent care, both digitally as well as at physical locations in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. The group also offers outpatient surgery and endoscopy, imaging, cardiac testing, and infusion. We share the commitment to delivering a coordinated and comprehensive experience across all locations, ensuring the appropriate level of care is available to every patient across our care delivery sites.
Urgent care, sometimes known as walk-in care, fast care, or express care, is a convenient option for patients 18 months and older who require timely medical care, but the situation is not an emergency. Because patients typically come to us when they aren't feeling their best, it is incredibly important to us that our staff members strive to provide the compassion and emotional support our patients need.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a full-time, 40-hour Medical Assistant to join our Urgent Care team located at 30 Locust St in Northampton, MA! The typical schedule will be 8-hr shifts Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:30pm (staggered), with rotating weekend coverage (every other).
Since Urgent Care is a 7-day-per-week operation that delivers care days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, we request staff to be flexible with scheduling needs and take on weekend/holiday coverage as needed. The operating hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 8:00pm and Saturday & Sunday from 9:00am to 5:00pm. We are open on major holidays from 9:00am to 5:00pm, but we are closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
As a small but strong team of 1-2 providers and 2-3 support staff, our Medical Assistants get the opportunity to work autonomously to the top of their education/certification while also functioning as part of a collaborative team.
We do our best to keep all employees in their assigned locations; however, you may also be asked to float to other locations for training/precepting purposes or during times of staffing shortages/other extenuating circumstances (for cross-coverage purposes). The other locations are Southampton, Amherst, and Greenfield, MA.
The Medical Assistant is responsible for patient care activities that include but are not limited to obtaining vital signs, obtaining blood specimens, and assisting nursing and medical staff in performing invasive and non-invasive procedures, such as bone marrow aspirates.
Indirect patient care activities include those that support clinic operations such as ordering and stocking clinical supplies and patient education materials, transporting patients and specimens as needed, and monitoring the environment of care. The position requirements include organizational skills with attention to detail, thoroughness, practical decision-making, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to teamwork.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
The ideal candidate profile is an experienced, adaptable Medical Assistant who is confident in their clinical abilities and genuinely enjoys variety! We hope our new employee holds organizational skills with attention to detail, thoroughness, practical decision-making, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to teamwork. We prefer our Medical Assistants to have the national MA certification from CMA, AAMA, RMA, CNMA, or CCMA.
