Assists in the daily operation of the Animal Facility, in feeding of and caring for animals used in experiments. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Follows policies and procedures for fulfilling animals’ nutritional health and environmental requirements as directed under the supervision of the Lead Animal Care Technician.
• Assists in receiving newly arrived animals and placing orders for new animals.
• Participates in daily care and maintenance of the Animal Facility.
• Participates in care, maintenance and sanitation of animal areas including all cage wash areas and cage equipment.
• Observes animals daily and reports any abnormal findings or unusual behavior to supervisor; records weekly census.
• Participates in weekend/holiday assignments for caring, feeding, and observing animals.
• Enhances professional growth and development through educational programs, seminars and in-house discussions.
• Performs other related functions as directed or required.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations. High school diploma or equivalent education; AALAS Certification at the ALAT Level preferred. 0-2 years related experience.
