Job Summary

Summary; Provides direct patient care through use of the nursing process. Working with the Nurse Director, facilitates the daily operations of the unit.

Under the direction of the Director of Partial Hospital and Residential Services and the Nurse Manager of The Pavilion provides direct oversight and management of all nursing care activities, milieu management and residential counselor duties at The Pavilion program.

Essential Functions

  • Accurately assesses patients’ needs
  • Utilizes multiple data sources to determine actual/potential health problems and functional status
  • Provides verbal communication to other health care providers
  • Documentation reflects on-going assessment of patients’ biopsychosocial status on Assessment Flowsheet
  • Accurately plans nursing interventions for assigned patients.
  • Modifies and individualizes Standard of Care and protocols
  • Participates in the development of the multidisciplinary treatment plan
  • Initiates discharge plans at time of admission
  • Demonstrates ability to prioritize patient care needs
  • Provides and implements nursing care interventions.
  • Establishes a therapeutic alliance with assigned patients

Principal Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Trains, supervises and continuously monitors all RN's, CRC's and Service Coordinators in their daily activities to ensure that standards of care, consistent with The Pavilion's mission, are being met at all times.
  • By direct observation oversees all components of patient care in the milieu. Demonstrates comprehensive understanding and is knowledgeable about the specifics of each patient's treatment Participates in rounds and actively collaborates with all members of The Pavilion professional staff. .,
  • Ensures that all RN and CRC d9pllllentation requirements are completed within required time frames and that the content is consistent with defined standards of care.
  • Ensures that all psychometric measures administered at admission and at discharge are completed.
  • Monitors all elements of the clinical program and develops plans for continuous quality improvement as needed.
  • Assists Shift Coordinator with scheduling. Monitoring of CRC's, RN's and Service Coordinators to ensure maximum use of resources and compliance to budget parameters.
  • Works in close collaboration with the Director of Admissions to ensure for the smooth flow of admissions and discharges to maximize occupancy.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrates accurate and timely transcription of physician orders
  • Promotes interventions that provide the least-restrictive alternatives
  • Participates in leading patient groups
  • Accurately evaluates the effectiveness of nursing care interventions.
  • Documentation on the Standard of Care, protocols, and Assessment Flowsheet reflects response to intervention, demonstrates an understanding of patients’ response to treatment interventions
  • Accurately communicates patients’ clinical status at patient rounds and change of shift reports
  • Participates in unit/program Quality Improvement activities
  • Assumes a leadership role in managing the daily operations of the unit.
  • Provides direction and supervision of RNs and MHSs
  • Assumes a leadership role in medical and psychiatric emergencies
  • Anticipates acute milieu problems and delegates staff appropriately
  • Participates in the training and education of RNs, MHSs, and other healthcare providers
  • Problem-solves with the Nurse Director around staffing issues
  • Provides for teaching needs of patient and significant others
  • Documents teaching in the patient’s record
  • Informs treatment team of patient and significant others’ learning needs
  • Maintains a commitment to professional growth and competency.
  • Utilizes the best available evidence to guide practice decisions
  • Completes mandatory in service requirements
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities
  • Seeks constructive feedback regarding work performance from peers and professional colleagues
  • Identifies strengths and areas for professional/practice development with supervisor
  • Supports, participates (as applicable) in research projects
  • Participates in the education and professional development of staff.
  • Collaborates with the Nursing Director in identifying and providing teaching for staff members
  • Participates in the development of clinical policies, nursing department procedures, and standards of care
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal communication.
  • Maintains patient privacy and confidentiality
  • Communicates positively, supportively, and with courtesy to the patients and staff
  • Presents self in a positive and professional manner
  • Contributes to the productivity and cost-effectiveness of the hospital, department, and unit.

  • Demonstrates economical management of services and supplies

    Education

    Bachelor's Degree Required Or Bachelor's Degree Nursing Preferred

    Experience

    Five years experience working in the mental health field preferred
