Job Summary
Responsible for reviewing and abstracting legal documents and requests related to the release of health information.
- Review legal documents, including subpoenas, court orders, and other legal requests for health information, to determine their validity and scope.
- Analyze legal documents to understand the specific health information requested and the purpose of the request.
- Collaborate with legal counsel to interpret and understand the legal requirements and implications of the requests.
- Abstract and compile relevant health information requested in legal documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements, privacy regulations, and organizational policies during the abstraction process.
- Identify and redact sensitive or confidential information in accordance with legal and privacy guidelines.
Qualifications
Education
- Associate degree, paralegal certificate, or High School Diploma with 2 years of healthcare experience required
- Degree in HIM, Business Management or a related field preferred
- Understands the components of a medical record, including how a record is maintained, organized and the retrieval of medical documentation in both paper and/or electronic format
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security rules and state and federal rules and regulations related to the disclosure of protected health information
- Experience working with Epic clinical and/or financial applications preferred

- Proficient utilization in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
