Job Summary

Responsible for reviewing and abstracting legal documents and requests related to the release of health information.

  • Review legal documents, including subpoenas, court orders, and other legal requests for health information, to determine their validity and scope.
  • Analyze legal documents to understand the specific health information requested and the purpose of the request.
  • Collaborate with legal counsel to interpret and understand the legal requirements and implications of the requests.
  • Abstract and compile relevant health information requested in legal documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with legal requirements, privacy regulations, and organizational policies during the abstraction process.
  • Identify and redact sensitive or confidential information in accordance with legal and privacy guidelines.

Schedule : Mon-Fri 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM EST, 1x onsite at 121 Inner Belt Somerville, MA 02143 (onsite days will fall between M-F and are determined once hired)

Qualifications

Education

  • Associate degree, paralegal certificate, or High School Diploma with 2 years of healthcare experience required
  • Degree in HIM, Business Management or a related field preferred

Experience

  • Understands the components of a medical record, including how a record is maintained, organized and the retrieval of medical documentation in both paper and/or electronic format
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of HIPAA privacy and security rules and state and federal rules and regulations related to the disclosure of protected health information
  • Experience working with Epic clinical and/or financial applications preferred
