The Attorney General’s Office is looking for a highly motivated individual of integrity and commitment to public service to serve as a Senior Public Corruption Investigator in the White Collar & Public Integrity Division of the Criminal Bureau.  This Senior Investigator will be responsible for investigating a broad range of criminal referrals and cases, with a particular emphasis on public corruption matters.  Public corruption matters include a broad array of schemes involving public officials, public institutions, and public funds, and implicate a similarly broad array of crimes including violations of the state ethics laws, campaign finance violations, tax fraud, forgery, perjury, financial fraud, and excessive use of force by law enforcement officers.  The Senior Investigator will also support other matters handled within the Division including financial crime and insurance fraud.  Financial crime includes fiduciary embezzlement by professionals, complex financial frauds, and tax fraud schemes.  The Criminal Bureau is staffed by a group of experienced prosecutors who partner with financial investigators, Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office, and local, state, and federal investigative and enforcement agencies.  The Senior Investigator will coordinate their efforts with this cross-functional prosecutorial team and with outside collaborators.


Primary Duties: 

 

The Senior Investigator will provide day-to-day investigative support to the employees of the WCPID.  These duties will include the following responsibilities: 

 

·  Participate in the evaluation of referrals for potential investigation and prosecution.

·  Conduct interviews of complainants, victims, witnesses, and targets to obtain statements and other evidence regarding the issues under investigation.  

·  Develop and implement investigative plans in consultation with the prosecution team. 

·  Assist with fact gathering using databases, open-source information, surveillance, and other investigative techniques.

·  Identify, obtain, and analyze documentary evidence obtained from numerous sources including individuals, financial institutions, other corporate entities and trusts, digital devices, social media, and local, state and federal agencies.

· Organize large amounts of diverse information and create charts, graphs, chronologies, and other visual aids to summarize findings for the prosecution team and jurors.

· Conduct financial background checks to identify financial assets. 

· Produce high quality investigative reports and memoranda, and if necessary, court-filed affidavits in support of criminal motion practice. 

· Testify in court and grand jury proceedings.

· Assist with the drafting and service of subpoenas and preservation orders. 

· Perform field visits to businesses, communities, and other locations. 

· Coordinate and collaborate with attorneys, investigators, victim witness advocates, and law enforcement officers assigned to the Attorney General’s Office and with other federal, state, and local referral agencies and law enforcement bodies, as well as other prosecutorial organizations working in partnership with the prosecution team. 

Performing additional duties, as necessary, to effectuate the above responsibilities 

Position Requirements:

·  Bachelor's degree preferred.
·  Applicants should have a minimum of 5-7 years of investigatory experience, preferably conducting and/or overseeing complex criminal and civil investigations. Prior experience with the investigation of public corruption and financial crimes is preferred. 
·  Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information is required. 
· Experience conducting interviews and writing reports, as well as synthesizing and interpreting data is required.
· Ability to interact with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment while remaining respectful, flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is required.
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, online databases, and social media sites is required.  The ability to learn other software applications as needed is also required.
· Excellent skills with mining online databases and social media applications are preferred. 
· Experience testifying in court or other legal proceedings is preferred.
· Applicants should possess excellent organizational and analytical skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.   
· Ability to multitask and demonstrate proficient time-management skills in handling several objectives concurrently is required.

Although this position is based in Boston, MA, the successful candidate will be required to travel as needed to other areas of the Commonwealth to support investigations and attend court proceedings, if necessary.   Accordingly, a valid Massachusetts driver’s license is required. 

 

Location:  Boston, MA. Our hybrid model may include some telework days for the successful candidate.  For the first six months in the position, the Senior Investigator will be expected to work in the office at least three or four days per week. 

 

Supervisor:  Division Chief & Deputy Division Chief, White Collar & Public Integrity Division

Position Type:  Full-Time/Exempt.  A request to work part-time can be discussed at time of interview and will be considered for qualified candidates whose full-time service would be precluded by state pension laws.  


Salary:  $88,000 to $98,000, commensurate with experience
