Position Overview

MassCEC is looking for a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) and Database Fellow for a period of 1 year from 7/14/2025 – 7/11/2026. Fellow needs to be able to come in person to our Boston office on their first and last day.

This is a 1-year position, please only apply if you are able to work full-time during the time period. Please state at the top of your cover letter that you are available for the entire duration of the fellowship.

The CRM and Database fellow will be an integral part of the new Data and Business Analytics department. This new division is charged with the improvement of organization-wide data and metrics processes for better accountability and storytelling of MassCEC’s impact across the Commonwealth. With a foundation in best practices of data management, this division is also charged with ensuring alignment of data processes with our counterparts across the Commonwealth and beyond and assist with the procurement and implementation of a new organization wide CRM, database, and grants management system. With high quality data at our fingertips, our goal is to move toward the implementation of a full metrics program and to respond to reporting requests quickly and efficiently about how MassCEC is helping to grow the clean energy economy and move Massachusetts toward achieving net zero emissions.

The Fellow will be an important contributor to the new division’s day-to-day operations. The Fellow will have the opportunity to learn about the process of migrating to a new organization wide data, reporting, and grants management system. The fellow will gain valuable insight about how to map current data and processes for migration into these new systems during a key period of organization-wide growth. The fellow will also gain experience about the innovative suite of MassCEC clean energy programs being carried out across the commonwealth, network and engage with industry stakeholders, and participate in sponsored activities including:

  • Lunchtime Tech Talks and Brown Bag Presentations;
  • Guided tour of the State House;
  • Guided tour of the Wind Technology Testing Center;
  • Industry conferences and events

Job Duties

  • Data inventory, data processes, and documentation tasks
    • Inventory and map currently tracked metrics and external stakeholder information across program teams and business units for migration into a new organization-wide centralized CRM/database solution.
    • Assist with data quality improvements and standardization of data and stakeholder information (including modeling and deduplication) for migration into a new CRM/Database solution.
    • Assist the Director and Chosen CRM/Data Solution Vendor with the migration of key data (metrics and stakeholder information) into the new CRM/Database.
    • Assist with the with mapping of integrations with the new CRM/Database, and eventually, a new Grants Management Portal, including integration with the new Workforce Development Portal.
    • Update and prepare dictionaries and glossaries for the migration to more formalized organization-wide data governance documents.
    • Collaborate with the Director, program teams, and business units across the organization to assist with other task related to the procurement and development of an organization wide CRM/database.
    • Prepare training and support materials (written, presentations, e-learning, etc.) to facilitate onboarding to the new Database/CRM solution.
  • Data Entry, Maintenance, and Training and Support tasks
    • Maintain and continuously update our “place based” project site data, adhering to new guidelines for data quality assurance.
    • Collaborate with program teams to ensure “place based” project site data quality.
    • Be a day-to-day point of contact with Government Affairs and other business units and program teams as needed to assist with data collection or entry needs.
    • Carry out data quality assurance on project site data for the Government Affairs legislative memos, as necessary.
    • Conduct trainings for program teams about project site data entry several times per year.
    • Collaborate with the Director and Chosen CRM/Data Solutions vendor to develop training and onboarding materials to migrate into the new CRM system.
  • Other tasks
    • Conduct research or other needs for migration into a new CRM, or to improve data practices.
    • Additional administrative support for myself and program teams as needed.
    • Collaborate with external vendor MassGIS to prepare place-based data for MassCEC mapping needs.
    • Other tasks as needed to meet the needs of the department.


Position Qualifications

Education:

  • We welcome applicants from various backgrounds for this role.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in data or computer systems, information systems, data analytics engineering, statistics, social sciences, environmental studies, business administration, public policy, or other related field with an emphasis on quantitative skills are preferred.
  • Currently pursuing or having completed a Graduate Degree in computer systems, information systems, data analytics engineering, statistics, social sciences, environmental studies, business administration, public policy, or other related field with an emphasis on quantitative skills is a plus.
  • Individuals with equivalent experience will also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of CRMs, database design, data architecture, and ELT processes (Salesforce, Hubspot, Dynamics365, Airtable, etc.).
  • Knowledge of SQL or other programming languages.
  • Experience transitioning to a CRM/database/Grants Management system in a business setting a plus.
  • Comfortable using Office programs including Word, Teams, and Outlook.
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with Microsoft Excel preferred.
  • Experience or familiarity with grants management systems and Grants management lifecycle a plus.
  • Proficiency with PowerBI or other Business Intelligence tools a plus.
  • Enjoys research with enthusiasm to learn about best practices in data processes, measurement, and management.
  • Excellent time management skills and keen understanding of prioritization.
  • Experience or interest in the clean energy industry, energy technology innovation or industry development.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and cross-organizationally on projects as assigned and manage multiple projects with deadlines effectively.
  • Effective presenter, disseminating information to a variety of audiences with no previous experience.
  • Experience writing or assisting with the development data governance documents a plus.
  • Experience with data quality improvement and creating efficient data processes, a plus.
  • Metric or KPI development experience in a research organization or for coursework a plus.


Supervision

The intern will work under the supervision of the Director of Data and Business Intelligence.


Salary

The intern will earn $20 per hour and be eligible to work for up to 40 hours per week.
