Cape Cod Central Railroad and Mass Coastal Railroad are looking for a seasonal Part-Time Railroad Tower Operator for May through Labor Day in Buzzards Bay to oversee train movements over the Cape Cod Canal Movable Bridge. Hours are Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays early evenings, and Saturdays and Sundays 8:30-10:30 AM. Schedule to be split amongst two people.
Job Description:
- Perform job briefings with the Train Dispatcher to determine necessary movements over the Cape Cod Canal Movable Bridge.
- Must attend all required rules classes and instructional training, and pass written examinations.
- Communicate by radio with Mass Coastal Railroad Train Dispatchers, Army Corp of Engineers bridge Operators and approaching trains to facilitate train movements over the Cape Cod Canal Movable Bridge.
- Operate interlocking machine controls located upstairs in the Buzzards Bay control tower to route train traffic over the Cape Cod Canal Movable Bridge.
- Observe approaching and passing trains and monitor interlocking machine control panel indications to verify movements are occurring as intended.
- Detect issues with the normal operation of the interlocking devices, and coordinate with the signal department, train crews, and bridge operators to assure safe passage for train movements.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and industry standards while performing all assigned duties with safety as the key priority.
- Must be able to safely and efficiently preform job duties and communicate with others while under pressure.
- Keep the interior of the control tower clean and organized. Keep the area around the exterior of the control tower clean.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
