The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Justice Initiatives contributes to campus diversity and inclusion goals by providing leadership for and advancing programs affecting the quality of campus life for all students, with a focus on MCLA community members from marginalized communities, including ALANA identifying and LGBTQIA identifying folx. Reporting to the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Belonging, this position is accountable to carry out the vision of MCLA's diversity, equity, and inclusion goals. This position plans, implements and assesses programs and initiatives to meet the diverse needs of our community by facilitating training and coordinating programs developed by the Office if IEB. The Director promotes persistence towards graduation and contributes to retention through referrals and intervention, community belonging activities, and formal training opportunities to increase equity.
In consultation with the VP for IEB, collaborate with key offices and academic departments to support the transition and success of students of color, LGBT students, international students, veterans, and other diverse populations into Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts. Connect students with scholarship, internship, service and leadership opportunities and award programs.
Assist in the development of policies, procedures and programs that assure the well-being and development of students from historically marginalized communities, affirm human dignity, and cultural pluralism across campus.
Assist the VP for IEB in assessing the educational and supportive needs of offices and departments as it relates to helping the college create a multicultural living-learning environment for all students.
Provide guidance in creating and delivering training and initiatives that promote increased cultural humility and diversity awareness within the MCLA community.
Provide operational leadership for the coordination of multicultural and international related programming, including but not limited to Black History Month, Latino Month, and Asian Awareness Month, Lavender Graduation, etc., as directed by the CDO.
Participate with MCLA award processes related to diverse student populations, such as the Mitch West Scholarship, Margaret Hart Scholarship, Multicultural Achievement Award and others in collaboration with appropriate academic and support departments.
Represent the Office of the IEB as requested.
Advance the work of centers and programs to support student populations who have been historically disadvantaged and oppressed in higher education:
the Multicultural Resource Center (MERC)
The Gender, and Sexuality Center (GSC)
Serve as chair, and/or member, of key institutional committees.
Serve as operational support for IEB events, programs, and initiatives.
Foster cross campus collaborations to increase equity mindedness and belonging.
Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Master's degree in higher education, social justice education, counseling, student affairs, or related program is required.
3 -5 years of experience working with college students required, ideally in a student development or advising capacity.
Demonstrated knowledge of principles and practices of student development, social justice education, and the needs of historically marginalized populations in higher education is required.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to initiate collaborative work with diverse students, faculty and staff.
Experience in student program development, budget management and vendor contracts.
Demonstrated ability to influence the creation, implementation, and management of a balanced array of programs which reflect students' interests and educational needs.
Proven ability to assess program impact on student learning, including use of quantitative and qualitative data.
Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to fulfill the job responsibilities.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time, benefited position in the APA union. Annual Salary is $65,000 - $80,000.
