Essential Duties and Responsibilities :
- Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of safety.
- Assist, plan, and implement safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Department of Transportation (DOT).
- Evaluate practices, procedures, and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law.
- Conduct training and presentations that pertain to safety matters and accident prevention.
- Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations.
- Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions.
- Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims.
- Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities, or new prevention measures.
- Report on health and safety awareness, issues, and statistics.
- Stay current on changes to and maintain a library of federal, state, and local transportation and environmental regulations.
- Support the development of transportation regulatory plans or programs for assigned state or federal jurisdiction to meet corporate compliance.
- Obtain, analyze, and communicate critical transportation regulatory information for use by management and related departments.
- Perform safety surveys and inspections, prepare written reports of findings and recommendations for corrective or preventive measures where indicated, and follow up to ensure measures have been implemented.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities :
Education & Experience : Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university; or three to five years minimum related experience and / or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
