What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Mammographer position at Massachusetts General Hospital?
Under the general direction from the Manager, incumbent operates mammographic equipment and devices to perform breast imaging examinations of diagnostic quality for radiologist interpretation. Performs screening, diagnostic, procedures, and specimen imaging conforming to image and data-integrity quality standards. Assists with the supervision of all breast imaging workflows and breast imaging technologist activities and assignments daily.
Works as a mammographer as needed
Acts as the back-up KRONOS Timekeeper and Patient Schedule Template Builder as applicable/appropriate In conjunction with the Clinical Manager, maintains availability of supplies and inventory as assigned by divisional procedure. Ensures all expendable products are within safe use periods
Works in conjunction with the Clinical Manager to adjust staffing schedules as needed.
Expedites all Breast Imaging patient visits to Radiology by monitoring waiting room activity and setting priorities of patients.
Coordinates activities between technologists, radiologists and support staff
Responsible for ensuring room cleanliness and readiness (supplies, linen are stocked)
Participates in training and orientation of new Breast Imaging technologists
Makes recommendations for educational in-services on changes in the Breast Imaging field
Promotes a positive work environment for technologist and radiologists
Participates in mammography section productivity activities. Assists in research and quality improvement projects
Responsible for properly utilizing safety practices (i.e. radiation protection, patient safety, and aseptic technique
Responsible for utilizing departmental information systems to maintain accurate patient and exam information, manage schedules, etc; monitors technologists' paperwork and computer entries for accuracy
Attends staff meetings, in-services and maintains appropriate CEU's in accordance with Massachusetts State licensure and ARRT requirements
Uses independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative under pressure in a variety of situations
Plan, compose, initiate and maintain complete procedure documentation, patient data, details of procedure and follow-up per departmental protocol
Assigns all mammography technologist work including breaks and lunch periods
Performs all other duties as assigned
Provides direct supervision in the mammography segment of the department where directly responsible for day-today operations of the mammography department with both short term and long term consequences resulting in patient delays, inadequate records, employee morale and working conditions. Oversees the work of 15-20 FTEs daily.
Education Associate's Degree Diagnostic Imaging required or Bachelor's Degree Health Sciences preferred

Licenses and Credentials
Current ARRT Registry and Massachusetts State license in Radiography and Mammography
