Job Title: Groundskeeper
Location: Garden at Elm Bank, Wellesley, MA
Reports to: Grounds Supervisor
Position Overview: Join our team as a Groundskeeper at the Garden at Elm Bank in Wellesley, MA! We seek someone reliable, hard-working and passionate about plants and landscaping to help us maintain and improve our beautiful grounds. This full-time, hourly, non-exempt, year-round position with full benefits is a satisfying opportunity to see the immediate impact of your own hard work in a developing public garden.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain turf areas including mowing, treating, fertilization, irrigation and edge maintenance
- Maintain tree and woody plant areas with removals and other chainsaw work required
- Maintain and groom paths and garden infrastructure including snow removal
- Conduct invasive weed control operations
- Assist horticulturists with planting, weeding, and seasonal flower planting
- Contribute to landscape construction projects
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors
- Maintain buildings and public areas' appearance
- Ensure tools and machinery are in good condition and regularly maintained
- Set up and break down for events and programs
- Organize and maintain storage areas
- Operate various tools and machinery including utility tractor and ride on mowers
- Prioritize safety and loss prevention
- Provide guidance to trainees, interns, and volunteers
- Perform tasks with focus and dedication
- Safely navigate the campus and ensure a positive guest experience
- OVER WINTER: Responsibilities may include facilities, grounds, painting, snow removal, installing or removing Christmas lights/decorations, and any other tasks based on Organization priorities.
Qualifications:
- Extensive practical experience in landscaping, gardening, golf course management or similar physical horticultural maintenance
- Valid Massachusetts driver's license and personal automobile insurance
- Local residency
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50lbs
- Physical ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs and ladders, and work in all weather conditions
- Effective communication skills
- Leadership qualities
Hours and Compensation:
- 40 hours per week, year round employment
