What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at MASSACHUSETTS INTERFAITH POWER & LIGHT?
Role and Responsibilities
1. Manage Massachusetts Interfaith Power and Light’s (MassIPL’s) operations and budget to
achieve its goals, broadly defined as PRAY, ACT, and MOBILIZE in collaboration with MA
faith communities to reduce the pace and adverse effects of climate change.
2. Serve as MassIPL’s “public face,” increasing the organization’s public profile and leading
its advocacy efforts to promote environmental justice and speaking at climate events.
3. Recruit new members, promote creation care, and expand alliances with faith
communities and climate action organizations by capitalizing on MassIPL’s unique niches
of (a) congregational access in the Massachusetts environmental justice space and (b)
the “go to” source for faith communities seeking help reducing carbon emissions.
4. Identify the support (staff, volunteers, or contractors) required to achieve MassIPL’s goals,
then recruit, train, and supervise those individuals/contractors.
5. Fundraising through grant proposals and solicitation campaigns (email, snail mail),
encouraging monthly donors.
6. Oversee social media accounts, website content, and publication of monthly newsletter.
Qualifications and Education
• Five or more years of social justice non-profit staff experience, especially as Executive Director or a senior manager
• Entrepreneurial, collaborative style
• Able to manage a virtual organization
• Knowledge of environmental issues, especially climate change
• Commitment to MassIPL’s mission and values of diversity, equity and inclusivity
• Preferred (but not required):
o Familiarity with the intersection of faith and environmental justice
o Public policy advocacy experience
o Understanding of MA’s decarbonization roadmap

Additional Notes
The Executive Director reports to the Chair of MassIPL’s governing body.
The hours (half time or three quarters) are negotiable. The annual compensation package (salary and benefits) will be in the mid- to upper-five figure range, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and hours agreed.
