What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Director of Student Academic Support position at Massachusetts Maritime Academy?
General Responsibilities
General Statement of Duties: The Associate Director of Student Academic Support will support the department director with general student academic advising duties such as degree planning, add/drop/withdrawal, student support resources, change of major requirements and planning. The Associate Director will act as the primary contact for students on academic probation, managing the scheduling and coordination of academic support services and appointments for these students, and working directly with these students on academic recovery plans and interventions. This position will be responsible for creating and managing a Blackboard classroom for both students on academic recovery and Maritime Academy Preparatory Seminar (MAPS) students to improve retention and graduation rates for at risk students. The person in this role will assist with placement testing management and scheduling as needed. The Associate Director will also be responsible for managing two part-time test proctors for reduced distraction testing.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Education, or similar subject matter
- Have experience in academic support services,
- Exhibit excellent oral and written communications skills,
- Have proficient computer skills,
- Knowledge of Blackboard or other LMS,
- Extensive knowledge of Google Suite and the ability to manage and maintain spreadsheets for the Academic Resource Center,
- Familiarity with academic program software and advising software such as Self Service, DegreeWorks, etc.
- Experience preparing and leading workshops for academic success/support
- Experience working with students with accommodations,
- Understand the unique mission of the university as a maritime academy
- Ability to demonstrate a personal and professional ability to foster diversity, equity and inclusion

- Hold a Master’s Degree in Education, Counseling, or equivalent
