General Responsibilities
General Statement of Duties: The Director of the Writing Resource Center, housed under the Academic Resources Department, will take the lead role in supporting student writing at the Academy. This position is a 12-month, in-person commitment.
Duties and Responsibilities: Director of the Writing Center oversees the WRC during the regular fall and spring semesters, along with several weeks during the Winter and Summer sessions. The Director assists with recruiting, hiring, and scheduling of tutors and serves as a writing tutor 15 – 20 hours each week during the academic semesters, including winter and summer sessions. Additional duties include training both writing and subject matter tutors, working with faculty on assignment design, writing workshops, writing groups, etc., and providing one-on-one assistance for faculty, as well as class presentations as needed. The Director serves as point person for students with documented reading/writing disabilities, offers occasional workshops for students and meets with tutors/students during occasional morning and/or evening hours.
Qualifications and Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in English, writing, or related field
- 2 years’ experience running a writing center
- 5 years’ experience tutoring in writing
- Experience training tutors
- Experience and/or training in working with students with reading and/or writing disabilities
- Knowledge of current best practices in tutoring
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with Academic Resources team
- Facility with Google Suite, Blackboard (or other LMS)
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in English, writing, or related field (PhD, MFA, etc.)
- Knowledge of MMA mission and curriculum
- Experience with software systems such as Accudemia, Slate or similar
- Vision for Writing Resource Center involving potential additions/adjustments to current system
