The Massachusetts Teachers Association (MTA) is a union, dedicated to improving the workplace and the quality of life for all education employees and to protecting their hard-won rights. Equally important, we are an association of highly qualified professionals, committed to establishing and maintaining optimal conditions for student learning from preschool through graduate school.

The MTA and its 110,000 members work to advance the quality and equity of Massachusetts public schools and colleges by securing the working conditions and professional respect and autonomy of educators, advocating for full funding for public education, and challenging education “reforms” that serve to privatize public education and undermine educator professionalism and the student learning experience.

The MTA is seeking a President and CEO of MTA Benefits, Inc. it’s wholly owned subsidiary. This position is responsible for planning, directing, coordinating, controlling, and evaluating all activities of MTA Benefits, Inc. (MTAB). MTAB was created in 1969 to provide economic benefits specific to the needs of its members within the public education community and add value to this membership. Benefits include more than 50 programs including insurance, financial wellness, banking, travel, consumer education and discounts. Programs are voluntary and are self-supporting. The president will be a dynamic executive with an extensive business and association/affinity marketing background. The position will continually engage in the evaluation of present programs and conduct research and development for new ones based on serving the needs of members and their families. The president reports to the MTAB Board of Directors. This position is in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manages all operations and reports on results to the MTAB Board of Directors.
  • Employs and supervises all staff under his or her direction in compliance with Affirmative Action and other programs necessary to meet the responsibilities of an equal opportunity employer.
  • Coordinates MTAB activities with appropriate officers and personnel within MTAB, MTA, NEA, supplying organizations and trade associations, as well as appropriate governmental regulatory personnel and policy makers.
  • Develops new programs improves existing programs, and/or eliminates outdated ones as well as negotiation of compensation plans with all vendors in key program areas.
  • Monitors legislative and regulatory activity and ensures compliance with all government requirements related to MTAB activities.
  • Oversees that member inquiries are tracked in a CRM system sufficient for the needs of the business.
  • Prepares a Management Plan and Marketing Plan as appropriate

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or professional insurance designations.
  • Seven to ten years of proven and successful business, management and marketing experience.
  • Extensive operations management experience.
  • Life, Accident, and Health Insurance License a strong plus.
  • Experience in budget preparation and implementation.
  • Demonstrated, successful experience in sales and marketing of affinity groups, insurance and/or other financial services.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and writing skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work weekends and evenings.
  • Automobile and valid driver's license or personal transportation.
