The ABE Associate Director assists the ABE Associate Dean in planning, developing, managing and evaluating the ABE ESOL Program and the Transitions to Community College Program.

Essential Functions:

The duties of the Associate Director of ABE include, but are not limited to:

Adult Basic Education Programming

  • Work with the Associate Dean of Adult Basic Education to assess the educational needs of the diverse community in Massasoit's service area and customize educational programming to meet community needs.
  • Assist in modifying existing and/or developing new Adult Basic Education ESOL curriculum.
  • Coordinate with other sister institutions' ESOL colleagues and attend networking events to identify and recruit ESOL instructors.
  • Participates in discussions and collaborates with ESOL instructors and other college staff as it pertains to the recruitment, retention and successful course completion and/or graduation of ESOL students.

ADJUNCT ABE INSTRUCTOR AND STUDENT SUPPORT

  • Assists the Adult Basic Education Associate Dean in recruiting, interviewing, and selecting adjunct ESOL instructors for hire.
  • Works with the Registrar's Office to create class schedules and reserve classrooms for the ESOL Program and the Transitions to Community College Program in advance of each semester.
  • Works with IT to ensure instructional equipment is available and operational in all assigned classrooms prior to the start of the semester.
  • Works with IT to ensure instructional equipment is provided for all instructors working remotely prior to the start of the semester.
  • Schedule and assign Adult Basic Education instructors for all semester classes in both the ESOL Program and Transitions to Community College Program.
  • Works with the Associate Dean of Adult Basic Education to prepare correspondence regarding course matters with instructors and students, as well as order textbooks and supplies and create program certificates and awards.
  • Assists with providing appropriate orientation to ESOL instructors, including the use of curriculum materials, security information, explanation of teaching schedule, use of instructor stations, college policies and introductions to Adult Basic Education and college staff.
  • Provides information to ESOL students regarding course content and college policies.
  • Support and collaborate with Adult Basic Education ESOL instructors and Transitions to Community College instructors on the inclusion of high impact practices in their teaching strategies, especially for English language learners.
  • Promote instructor awareness of student needs and recommend appropriate strategies to address learning needs.
  • Manage day-to-day activities of Adult Basic Education instructors and students, including attempting to solve all first level student and instructor issues.
  • Assist in collecting, evaluating, analyzing, and reporting meaningful Adult Basic Education ESOL student outcome data and other successes from the student, instructor, and college perspectives.
  • Share and discuss Adult Basic ESOL and Transitions student course evaluation results with instructors.
  • Assist in using the evaluation data effectively to inform future course offerings and program development.
  • Maintain an organized system of tracking Adult Basic Education ESOL registrations and enrollments.

Adult Basic Education Administration

  • Assists the Adult Basic Education Associate Dean in administering the divisional budgets for designated programs and training courses as appropriate.
  • Assists the Adult Basic Education Associate Dean in the coordination of writing and implementing grant proposals as well as the implementation and submission of required accreditation and licensing documentation.
  • Assists in grant data management, for example the DESE Dashboards and GEMS
  • Assists in the development, proofing, editing, and delivery of ABE Education catalogs, brochures, fliers, advertising and other marketing materials.
  • Assists in answering telephone and e-mail inquiries about continuing education courses and training programs.
  • Represents Massasoit and ABE Education in various local and regional meetings (e.g., meetings with statewide workforce development staff, business organizations, as needed.)
  • Assists in preparing appropriate departmental reports (e.g., monthly and annual enrollment reports and activities).
  • Provides evening and weekend ABE Education campus and event coverage when needed.
  • Participates in divisional and college-wide meetings and serves on various work committees as needed.
  • Represents the ABE Education Associate Dean responsibilities in their absence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of college academic administrative experience in working with diverse populations or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of college teaching experience either in-person or online; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Understanding of the community college history, mission, and its diverse students

Preferred:

  • Master's degree in Education or a related field
  • Minimum of two (2) years of community college academic administrative experience in working with diverse populations
  • Fluency in Portuguese, Haitian Creole, Cape Verdean Creole, or Spanish
  • Grant writing and grant administration experience
  • Banner or other student information system experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of curriculum development and instructional technology related to education, behavioral, and social science research trends
  • Demonstrated understanding of the community college mission and role with a focus on promoting diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to respond appropriately with respect for the various cultures and needs of ESOL adult students
  • Ability to analyze data and make sound recommendations and offer viable solutions about complex management and administrative issues
  • Outstanding creativity, attention to detail, and strong customer service skills
  • Strong public speaking and group facilitation skills
  • Excellent written communications skills

Additional Information:


Position Status:
Non-Unit Professional, full-time, Grant Funded position.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends. This position may be eligible for telework in accordance in with the College's telework policy.

Salary: $77,259.00 - 100,437.00. Salary is commensurate with education and experience.

Worksite: Assignments will include all Massasoit sites and additional locations as necessary.
