Job Description:
The Police Department, being a partner with the entire College Community detects, deters, and apprehends criminal offenders. Massasoit Police Officers are licensed under Massachusetts General Law, Chapter 22C, § 63 by the State Police granting them the same powers of arrest as a city or town police officer while on property owned, used, and occupied by Massasoit Community College. Subject to approval by the Chief of Police, Massasoit Police Officers may also receive additional police authority as Plymouth County Deputy Sheriffs under G.L. Chapter 37 § 3.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Traffic Control
- Enforce motor-vehicle traffic law
- Investigate crimes and other incidents as directed
- Patrol campus buildings and grounds
- Interact frequently with students, faculty, staff and visitors.
- Carry a College issued firearm when on duty.
- Officers are assigned on a rotating basis to one of the three shifts that may include weekends, nights and holidays.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Chief of Police, Command Staff and Superior Officers.
Requirements:
- At least 21 years old
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- Massachusetts Class A License to Carry
- Valid Massachusetts Driver's License
- Ability to receive and retain MA POST Commission Certification and SSPO Warrant of Appointment, and must pass a required background check pursuant to M.G.L. c. 6E, § 4 as a condition of employment.
- If a previous graduate of an MPTC Reserve Academy, must meet all eligibility requirements to attend the Bridge Academy, be up to date on all in-service training requirements and be willing and capable to work part-time until approved by POST to work full-time.
- Ability to successfully complete a Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) certified Recruit Officer Course (ROC) https://www.mass.gov/service-details/mptc-full-time-police-academies and receive and retain a Massachusetts Special State Police Warrant (SSPO) in accordance with MGL Chapter 22C, section 63; https://www.mass.gov/regulations/515-CMR-500-standards-of-skill-for-special-state-police-officers and applicable city and/or town special police authority as deemed necessary by the Massasoit Community College Police Department.

- Knowledge of police procedures and practices, the laws of arrest and criminal procedures.
- Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to prepare written reports.
- Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as listed in Massachusetts Department of Human Resources Classification Specifications.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Completion of MPTC approved full-time academy Recruit Officer Course (ROC) or completion of MPTC Bridge Academy.
- MA POST Certified
- Prior experience in campus law enforcement.
- Understanding of Clery and Title IX regulations.
- Prior experience and knowledge of the IMC operating system(s).

Salary: Grade 16, Step 6 $2,229.48/bi-weekly ($57,966.48 annually)
Worksite: Assignments may include all Massasoit sites
