Internship Summary
Green banks nationally are relatively new and innovative financing and policy programs, and the Massachusetts Community Climate Bank (MCCB) is unique in its specific focus on decarbonization of affordable housing. We anticipate that an intern will take a contributing role in one or more of the Climate Bank's ongoing projects. These programs will continue to evolve and currently consist of the Energy Saver Home Loan Program (https://massclimatebank.com/eshlp) and Solar For All, which is dedicated to supporting solar photovoltaic installations on affordable multifamily housing properties.
You will have the opportunity to meet and collaborate with staff from the Climate Bank and possibly other organizations. We will work with you to use your expertise and areas of interest to create meaningful advances in our ongoing projects and programs. One of our main goals is to enable you to show future collaborators or investors how you contributed to the success of Climate Bank programs. The Community Climate Bank Intern can expect to:
- Conduct literature reviews.
- Perform research and writing related tasks.
- Gather data and perform both qualitative and quantitative analysis; possibly including preparing data for the annual report or a fall reporting event.
- Take on a contributing role by sharing ideas during internal meetings, listening in on calls for context and learning, providing their ideas and perspective on current MCCB work
- Attend meetings and prepare notes.
- Create short memos and present 1-2 report(s) over the course of the internship.
- Provide support and coordination for site visits and external events.
- Become involved and providing support for the Solar For All program and/or Energy Saver Home Loan; possibly creating a case study library.
A unique component of this internship experience is the opportunity to be part of a wider cohort of interns across MassHousing. All interns will meet weekly to engage in team-building activities and share their experiences. This unique setup allows our interns to form meaningful connections, collaborate effectively, and understand the holistic workings of MassHousing. These cohort meetings also provide a setting for interns to interact with our executive leadership, offering insights into strategic decision-making and organizational culture.
This is a paid three-month internship starting in May 2025. Pay rate is $20.00 - $24.00 per hour, commensurate with prior experience. The internship maintains a Monday through Friday schedule requiring a commitment of 35 hours per week.
MassHousing offers an Alternative Work Schedule (AWS)-hybrid work model however not all positions are suitable for remote work. Internships will be expected to work on site at least two days a week. During the onboarding and training period interns will be expected to be on site as directed.
Job Requirements
The ideal Community Climate Bank Intern will:
- Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills as well as organizational skills.
- Have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Pay high attention to detail.
- Be proficient in Microsoft software including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Have training or experience with urban planning, affordable housing design /development, real estate finance, climate policy, clean energy, and/or public health.
- Be curious and willing to explore new ideas, including the opportunity to learn more about affordable housing finance.
- Have interest in environmental science, community development, or related field.
- Hold other qualifications or interests that may include finance, data analysis, marketing, management, engineering (although the work may not be directly engineering related), sociology, anthropology,
