Position: Substitute Assistant Cook
Building: Any District Building
Time Schedule: Per building time schedule
Rate of pay: $11.00/hr.
Reports to: Building Principal/Designee
Deadline: Until filled
JOB DESCRIPTION
Shall serve as an assistant and follow direction from the Head Cook and Food Service Supervisor
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Prepare food that is healthy, nutritious and tasty
- Use appropriate portion sizes for each meal component
- Perform and carry through until finished any food/meal preparation duties, serving and cleaning duties
- Follow sanitation standards set by the Health Department
- Operate Point of Sales System as needed
- Attend any meetings or in-services when required by Supervisor.
- Take over the responsibilities of Head Cook during Head Cook’s absence (according to seniority)
- Be neat and clean in appearance
- Work in a cooperative and professional manner, creating a good working environment for students, staff, co-workers and public
- Perform any other tasks designated by the Head Cook, building Principal or Food Service Supervisor
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) – proof required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- A working knowledge of food preparation, equipment operation, serving, cleaning, portion control
- Cash register and bookkeeping experience is highly desirable

- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Frequent requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see (ability to see color), read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop
- Frequent requirement to lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 50 pounds
- Occasional exposure to fumes, airborne particles or dangerous chemicals
- Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions
- Occasional requirement to travel, e.g., to deliver food and supplies
- Occasional evening/weekend/summer work
- Occasional requirement to work overtime
- Occasional exposure to extreme heat and cold, e.g., ovens, walk-in freezer
- Frequent repetitive hand motion, e.g., calculator, cash register, computer
- Occasional requirement to operate school district vehicle
