This role requires a strong understanding of CNC programming, blueprint reading, and quality control standards.
Requirements
Machine Setup and Operation:
- Set up and calibrate CNC plasma cutting machine for specific jobs.
- Load and unload metal sheets or other materials onto the cutting table.
- Program and adjust CNC settings to optimize cutting quality and speed.
- Select appropriate cutting tools and parameters based on material type and thickness.
- Read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and job specifications.
- Modify and optimize CNC programs (G-code) for plasma cutting.
- Adjust cut paths to minimize material waste and improve efficiency.
- Monitor machine operations to ensure precise and accurate cuts.
- Inspect finished products to verify they meet quality standards and dimensional accuracy.
- Use precision measuring tools, such as calipers and gauges, to perform quality checks.
- Perform routine maintenance on plasma cutting machine.
- Clean and replace machine parts, such as nozzles and electrodes, to maintain optimal performance.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot machine malfunctions or performance issues.
- Follow safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as gloves, goggles, and welding helmets.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to minimize hazards.
- Strong understanding of CNC machine operation and plasma cutting principles.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in G-code, M-code, and other CNC programming languages.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate hand tools and measuring devices.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Certification or vocational training in CNC operations, welding, or a related field is a plus.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience operating CNC plasma cutting machines.
- Shipyard experience a plus.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Standing for extended periods and performing repetitive tasks.
- Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to work in Industrial fabrication environment with exposure to heat, noise, and sparks.
- Ability to use protective gear, including gloves, goggles, and flame-resistant clothing.
