Summary/Objective
This position will perform overhead and underground electric line construction and maintenance, as well as the operation and maintenance of equipment under the direction of a Journeyman Lineman and/or Line Foreman. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, driving trucks, operating equipment, loading, and unloading material, climbing poles, working from aerial personnel lift devices. Have all tools that are not provided by the company to complete job task.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- You are a designated competent person for your crew; you must be able to identify hazards and take corrective actions when necessary.
- Have a basic understanding and knowledge of power line construction, re-conducting, conversions, transformer connections and specs.
- Able to perform entry level linemen duties while under close supervision of a Journeyman Lineman.
- Customer and labor effective communication.
- Understand and follow all assigned job task.
- Organizational skills.
- Ability to motivate individuals.
- Ability to follow specific job requirements and recognize potential dangers.
- Work long and irregular hours to restore service.
- Travel long distances when needed; work out of town and/or state when necessary.
- Work in inclement weather conditions
- Drive utility vehicles (CDL drivers only); while following operating instructions, safety standards, guidelines and DOT responsibilities.
- Must be able to operate all safety equipment and initiate emergency action plan if necessary.
- Will be expected to perform pole top rescue when needed from a pole or utilizing the lower controls of a bucket.
- Will be expected to perform CPR if called upon.
- Has overall responsibility for safety and performance of crew.
- Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing all essential functions.
- Must be familiar with all host utility specifications.
- Must be able to climb poles/structures while using 100% fall protection.
- Must understand and have knowledge of assigned PPE and how and when to use it.
- Must take direction and learn safe and productive work practices from journeyman lineman.
- Pass pre-employment and/or random drug test.
EDUCATION POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Qualified candidates for this position will have relevant education and experience necessary to perform the essential functions and meet the minimum performance expectations for this position.
- High school diploma or GED
- Valid CDL driver’s license with Class A endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months of employment)
GENERAL WORK DUTIES
- Assist the other crew members in the construction, modification, or demolition of overhead electrical lines.
- Helps assemble material, frame poles, prepare electrical equipment to be installed
- Climbs poles to construct, modify or remove wire and/or electrical equipment such as transformers, security lighting, electrical conductors.
- Climbs poles to assist a bucket operator construct, modify or remove wire and/or electrical equipment such as transformers, intellirupters, capacitor banks, security lighting, electrical conductors.
- Install, repair or replace open wire secondaries and services
- Help to maintain or clean up a work area to ensure no hazards exist during construction
- Begin operation of specific equipment such as Line Trucks, Buckets, Rope and Wire machines.
- Begin the operation of Backyard machines.
EQUIPMENT/TOOL REQUIREMENTS
- Climbing Tools including but not limited to: Climbing Belt, 100% approved fall protection safety, secondary lanyard, Climbers (Hooks), basic Lineman hand tools.
Availability, Physical Demands and Other REQUIREMENTS
Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility and presence on-site.
A minimum of 40 hours/week may be required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position, including presence at designated internal and external meetings. This position may also require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the evenings and/or during weekends.
Environmental & Physical Conditions
The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position works primarily in the field and is exposed to all types of weather conditions including temperature extremes and rainy environments. Outdoor setting involves all types of property and site conditions, including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, building construction sites and road rights-of-way. Subject to outside weather/driving conditions.
