IUS SAFETY REPRESENTATIVE Job Description
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE
This position includes safety and training responsibilities required for all aspects of IUS safety, apprenticeship program management, CPE Sub Contractor apprenticeship program management and assisting the Fleet Manager with DOT compliance needs. This includes, but is not limited to, managing the apprenticeship program, performing all aspects of the OH and UG crew’s safety needs and DOT fleet management. This position is regularly involved in training matrix management, assisting in the apprenticeship program, and is expected to perform periodic crew visits which includes but not is limited to performing observations. This position is also expected to help manage the rubber protective equipment and live line tools to help ensure all equipment is tested and OSHA compliant.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Apprenticeship program management which includes OJT Log and test management for all employees in the program and managing the database.
- Be the primary contact for all Apprentices, sending out constant communications to inform them of status, testing requirements and OJT log requirements, and signing up new apprentices.
- DOT Compliance management, assist Fleet manager with DOT Inspection compliance and data management.
- Manage all training data, scheduling, coordinating and facilitating training classes.
- Periodic field visits associated with both overhead and underground crews, fleet, and office safety.
- Assist Safety with monthly safety meetings for all employees.
- Help manage rubber glove and sleeve data base to ensure in compliance with OSHA and are changed out in a timely manner.
- Help Safety team manage and periodically swap out rubber gloves and sleeves, and safety equipment to ensure crew members are safe and in compliance with OSHA rules and regulations.
- Enforces all inter-company, Federal and state safety regulations for our industry.
- Is familiar with OSHA and DOT regs.
- Shares in responsibility with Operations team for the proper training of personnel in the safe operation of equipment and tools.
- Conducts crew observations weekly along with Safety Professionals.
- Assist Safety Management in managing Apprenticeship Program to fulfill both OJT and testing requirements.
- Performs new employee orientations.
- Perform incident investigations and have the ability to find the root cause of an incident and develop corrective actions to be followed up on.
- Administers developed and needed safety and industry training
- Have Microsoft Word and Excel skills along with other computer skills.
- Willingness to travel in state or to other states to support IUS crews on storm restoration efforts.
- Attend business partner safety meetings as an IUS Representative.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or GED
- College Degree in Safety not required but encouraged to acquire.
- Minimum of 7 years of related industry experience or 5 years safety professional experience in the Electrical Distribution industry.
- Training skills
- Excellent communication skills.
- Good Leadership skills
- Thorough understanding of the practices, methods, equipment, materials, and tools of the electrical trade.
- Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
- Ability to communicate safety in a non-combative and constructive manner.
Minimum Requirements
- Pass pre-employment, random, post-accident, and reasonable suspicion drug screens
- Satisfactory results of pre-employment background check results
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record is required
- Must be able to pass drug screening test.
- Must be willing to consent to a background check.
- Must be able and willing to obtain Basic First Aid and CPR Certification (Company Provided)
- Must have basic computer skills (Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Must be willing to assist in any task that needs to be completed on the project.
- Must be open to extended times away from home as well as working holidays.
Availability, Physical Demands and Other REQUIREMENTS
Due to the nature and scope of the essential functions, the importance of personal interactions with coworkers and members of the public, and the availability of job-related tools, equipment and resources at work, performance of the essential functions requires regular, consistent availability, accessibility, and presence on-site.
A minimum of 50 hours/week may be required to efficiently perform the job duties of this position, including presence at designated internal and external meetings. This position may also require availability and accessibility to respond to and address emergencies and critical situations outside of normal business operating hours in the evenings and/or during weekends.
Environmental & Physical Conditions
The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position works primarily in the field and is exposed to all types of weather conditions including temperature extremes and rainy environments. Outdoor setting involves all types of property and site conditions, including open spaces, timberlands, urban developments, flat and hilly terrain, building construction sites and road rights of way. Subject to outside weather/driving conditions.
