What are the responsibilities and job description for the Estimator position at Master Research & Manufacturing Inc.?
Job Overview
We are a well-established, family-owned aerospace manufacturing company specializing in high-precision CNC machined components for leading defense and aviation clients including Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, and more. We take pride in our craftsmanship, long-term client relationships, and commitment to quality.
As we continue to grow and receive a high volume of complex RFQs, we are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team and take the lead in managing quoting efforts for both build-to-print parts and large assemblies. This role is vital to our continued success and offers the opportunity to mentor the next generation of leadership.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Estimator to join our aerospace CNC machine shop. In this role, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of manufacturing projects, primarily focused on aerospace components. You will collaborate with our engineering, production, and sales teams to ensure quotes and estimates align with customer specifications, production capabilities, and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Estimation: Analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and customer requirements to prepare detailed cost estimates for CNC machining projects, specifically within the aerospace sector.
- Project Scope Evaluation: Work with engineering and production teams to evaluate project scope, materials, labor, and machining requirements, ensuring that all aspects of the project are accounted for in the estimate.
- Quotation Preparation: Develop accurate and timely quotes based on production cost, materials, tooling, labor hours, and overhead costs, ensuring that all estimates align with the shop’s capabilities and the customer’s needs.
- Customer Interaction: Liaise with customers to clarify project requirements, address questions, and adjust estimates as necessary to reflect changes in project scope or specifications.
- Production Coordination: Collaborate with the production team to understand machining capabilities, lead times, and capacity to ensure that quotes and estimates align with operational resources.
- Market Research: Stay updated on material costs, industry standards, and technological advancements in CNC machining and aerospace to provide the most competitive and accurate estimates.
- Bid and Proposal Support: Support the sales team in preparing and submitting proposals for new business opportunities and government contracts, ensuring that estimates are in line with customer expectations and budgetary constraints.
- Cost Analysis: Regularly review and analyze job costs and past estimates to identify trends and areas for process improvement, helping to refine estimating practices.
- Documentation: Maintain detailed records of estimates and quotes, including project specifications, assumptions, and cost breakdowns, for future reference and audit purposes.
Requirements:
- 3 years of experience in estimating or a similar role in a CNC machine shop, with a focus on aerospace or high-precision manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of CNC machining processes, materials, and aerospace industry standards (e.g., AS9100, FAA, ITAR).
- Proficiency in CAD software, CATIA, and NX.
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate technical specifications and project requirements.
- Strong attention to detail, with the ability to identify discrepancies in drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal teams and customers.
- Experience with cost analysis, budgeting, and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of government contracting and related compliance standards (FAR, DFARS) is a plus.
Duties
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for construction projects using Job Boss and other estimating software.
- Analyze blueprints, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
- Collaborate with project managers to develop project budgets and timelines.
- Negotiate contracts with subcontractors and suppliers to secure the best prices and terms.
- Conduct site visits to assess project requirements and gather necessary data for accurate estimating.
- Monitor project costs throughout the construction process to ensure adherence to budget constraints.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, contracts, and correspondence related to projects.
Join our team as an Estimator where your expertise will contribute significantly to our success in delivering high-quality construction projects on time and within budget.
