What are the responsibilities and job description for the Chop Gun Operator position at Master Spas?
We are a leading manufacturer of hand-crafted Spas and Swim Spas, and our Chop Gun Operators play a vital role in our production process. This position is essential to ensuring the strength and quality of our spa shells. What You’ll Do:
- Operate a chop gun to apply laminate materials (resin, glass, and catalyst) evenly to spa shells.
- Follow precise click count cards to ensure proper fiberglass application.
- Assist in rolling and mixing Shar Tanks to maintain material quality.
- Maintain and clean chop guns and related equipment between tasks.
- Adhere to strict safety protocols, including wearing a respirator, paper body suit, gloves, masks, and eyewear.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, following all OSHA safety regulations.
What We’re Looking For:
✔ Physical endurance – Ability to hold a 20lb. chop gun above your head and at wrist level for 15-minute intervals.
✔ Strength & mobility – Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 100 lbs. with assistance.
✔ Attention to detail – Ability to apply an even laminate coating without thick or thin spots.
✔ Reliability – Must maintain good attendance and follow production processes without deviations.
✔ Work environment adaptability – Comfortable working in a non-temperature-controlled facility with materials such as fiberglass, resin, and glue.
✔ Respirator clearance – Must obtain respirator clearance and comply with OSHA guidelines on facial hair for proper mask fit.
Training & Pay Progression:
- Level 1 (Starting Pay: $18.50/hr) – Training phase, learning chop gun operation and maintenance.
- Level 2 ($19.50/hr) – Demonstrated ability to apply laminate evenly; must start a 30-day certification process.
- Level 3 ($20.50/hr) – Completion of IDEM certification process.
- Level 4 ($21.50/hr) – Consistently maintains click count accuracy and is in good standing with attendance and performance.
