Shift: Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 11:00pm
SUMMARY
Responsible for maintaining cleanliness and good upkeep of Sarah’s Hope, Family Shelter, including basic maintenance of floors, and general improvements and “handyman” tasks as needed. Also responsible for providing assistance in the supervision of shelter guests and ensures that necessary security is provided.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Assure that Daily/Weekly/Monthly schedule of Maintenance tasks are completed in a satisfactory and timely manner.
- Assign tasks to guests of Sarah’s Hope and assure they are carried out satisfactorily.
- Assure bathrooms are clean and have sufficient personal supplies on a daily basis.
- Provide Security for the shelter on a daily basis and identify substitutes in his absence.
- Assume responsibility for observing when maintenance supplies need re-ordering and inform Director accordingly.
- Ensure a peaceful and respectful atmosphere in all programs.
SECONDARY DUTIES
- Assume responsibility for storing maintenance supplies in proper location and keeping an adequate supply available for daily use. Complete daily maintenance checklist.
- Observe where repairs/replacements may be needed and report to immediate supervisor for direction and follow-up.
- Assist with the pick-up of donations and food orders as needed.
- Complete Guest behavior reports when necessary.
- Attend and fully participates in all staff meetings as required.
- Assist with and attend special events held by the Center and St. Vincent de Paul as necessary.
- Uphold the vision, mission, and values of St. Vincent de Paul.
- Create an atmosphere of care and respect for clients.
- Support a welcoming and positive environment for volunteers and work with them effectively.
- Other duties as assigned, within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED.
- Knowledge of floor and building maintenance; basic handyman skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Ability and willingness to relate with others in a respectful manner and work well as a team member.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries with program participants, and to refer participants appropriately to case management staff.
- Sensitivity to the needs and concerns of persons who are materially poor and/or homeless, and the ability to be comfortable working with persons of all socioeconomic, religious, and ethnic backgrounds in a non-judgmental manner.
- An understanding and respect for the confidentiality of clients.
- Ability to organize oneself, one’s work, and other persons sufficiently to accomplish the required daily tasks.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
