Description
SUMMARY
Under general supervision, ensures the safety of the campers of the pool facility by preventing and responding to emergencies. Provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Leads, supervises, and is responsible for the campers Water Safety instruction.
- Serves as a lifeguard and ensures that constant and adequate lifeguard coverage while pool is in use and ensures the safety of all campers at all times.
- Makes sure campers are supervised at all times and that proper safety and first aid procedures are carried out.
- Pre and Post Test campers’ swim levels.
- Accurately track and report campers’ progress.
SECONDARY DUTIES
- Prepare for and actively participate in staff training, orientation, meetings and supervisory conferences.
- Adhere to the camp’s personnel policies.
- Promotes good camp spirit and unity; and encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
- Serve as a good example in personal language, appearance and health habits.
- Expected to wear camp T-shirts, appropriate shorts and shoes at all times.
- Evaluate the current season and make recommendations for equipment, supplies and program for the following season.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be 18 years of age or older and/or a high school graduate by summer.
- Current Red Cross or similar certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR.
- Experience as a camper or working with children as a leader or assistant leader in a day or residential camp environment.
- Be able to communicate verbally with campers and provide instructions.
- A desire and ability to work with children outdoors.
- Capable of implementing daily activities and completion of minor administrative tasks through verbal and written communication.
- Ability to relate to one’s peers as well as to children.
- Ability to accept supervision and guidance.
- Be physically able to accompany the campers to any of the camp activities.
- Ability to displays enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and self-control.
- Ability to commit to 8 weeks of uninterrupted work and pre and post camp planning meetings.
- Possess and demonstrate emotional maturity, integrity, adaptability and high moral character.
- Successful completion of background screening.
