Job Description: Systems Administrator
Location: On-site work with rotating on-call duty (about one week per month).
Preference: Local candidates preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Tier 1-3 support, responding to all levels of technical assistance requests.
- Deliver exceptional customer service and communicate effectively with users and teams of varying technical expertise.
- Address break/fix requests associated with end-user resources.
- Configure and deploy new/replacement servers using Linux (REDHAT) and Windows operating systems.
- Configure and deploy new/replacement desktop/laptop computers and peripherals.
- Maintain up-to-date project and architecture documentation.
- Keep detailed inventory and maintenance records.
- Monitor system resources for server/service anomalies and resolve connection issues between users and resources.
- Maintain a detailed change history of modifications.
- Collaborate on team efforts to improve cybersecurity controls, threat hunting, and mitigation.
- Manage time and resource constraints effectively.
System Administration Duties:
- Provision, install, configure, and maintain computer hardware, software, and related infrastructure.
- Ensure adherence to Commonwealth policies, standards, and guidelines.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems, and key processes.
- Review system and application logs and ensure completion of scheduled jobs like backups.
- Conduct regular security monitoring to identify possible intrusions.
- Perform backup operations and necessary file archival and purging.
- Create, modify, and delete user accounts as requested.
- Investigate and troubleshoot issues, diagnosing and recovering from hardware or software failures.
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with impacted constituencies.
- Apply OS patches, upgrade tools/utilities, and configure or add new services as necessary.
- Upgrade and configure system software for GIS infrastructure or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs.
- Generate performance reports to support capacity planning.
- Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization.
Qualifications:
- Experience in configuring and deploying Linux (REDHAT) and Windows servers.
- Expertise in end-user desktop/laptop support, including hardware and peripheral deployments.
- Strong understanding of cybersecurity controls, threat hunting, and mitigation practices.
- Proficiency in monitoring and resolving server/service anomalies.
- Exceptional customer service skills with the ability to communicate complex technical issues effectively.
- Experience in maintaining detailed documentation and change logs.
- Knowledge of performance tuning and capacity planning.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be available for rotating on-call support (one week per month).
- Must possess a valid driver's license and a clear driving history.
