Job Summary: The Service Manager is responsible for overseeing the operations of an automotive service department. They play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the service department by managing a team of technicians, scheduling appointments, and coordinating the repair and maintenance of vehicles. Additionally, they are responsible for maintaining customer satisfaction by addressing any concerns or issues, providing estimates for repairs, and ensuring that all work is completed in a timely manner. The auto Service Manager also plays a pivotal role in maintaining inventory levels, ordering necessary parts and supplies, and ensuring that the service department operates within budgetary constraints. Overall, their main objective is to ensure that the service department runs efficiently and effectively, providing high-quality service to customers.
Essential Functions:
- Maintain a high level of leadership knowledge and practical experience through classroom training, hands-on experience and reading.
- Be familiar with the staff’s capabilities, personality, skill level and speed.
- Cater to customers and staff concerns.
- Take ownership of issues and follow them through to resolution; resolve issues in a professional, expedient manner.
- Ensure repairs or other tasks are performed in a correct, cost effective and timely manner.
- Delegate tasks and accountabilities.
- Maintain an orderly workflow according to priorities.
- Improve operational systems, processes and best practices that guarantee organizational well-being.
- Improve customer service experience, create engaged customers and facilitate organic growth.
- Keep accurate records and document customer service actions and discussions.
- Competent in-Service Advisor duties and selling services.
- Monitor shop equipment, operating conditions and facility conditions, and make repairs and purchases as needed.
- Direct the maintenance of shop cleanliness and appearance in accordance with company housekeeping policies and management directives.
- Report to management any situation or condition that jeopardizes the safety, welfare or integrity of the shop, its personnel or customers.
- Assist with comeback review and perform quality control checks.
- Monitor productions KPI’s.
- Ensure a positive work environment.
- Recruit, mentor and develop technicians and service advisors and nurture an environment where they can excel through encouragement and empowerment
- Monitor work schedules
- Monitor and evaluate staff performance
- Keep ahead of industry developments and apply best practices to areas of improvement
- Outside normal business hours may be necessary to complete responsibilities

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds.
Required Education/Experience/Certifications:
- High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
- At least 5 years in shop management.
Preferred Education/Experience/Certifications:
- Previous work as an auto/diesel technician.
- Service writing/advising experience.
- Experience in a management role in a diesel shop.
- A valid Commercial Driver’s License with passenger endorsement
- Experience with Auto Integrate.
- Bilingual English/Spanish
