Job Summary:
MasterScapes’ Lead Mechanic will take charge of the company’s maintenance and repairs. This role is essential to keeping our trucks, trailers, and equipment running smoothly, ensuring minimal downtime for our crews. The Lead Mechanic will oversee all preventative maintenance, diagnose and fix mechanical issues, and manage a mechanic’s assistant. Additionally, they will be responsible for maintaining fleet registrations and keeping the shop clean, organized, and well-stocked. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone who takes pride in efficiency, safety, and quality workmanship.
Key Responsibilities: Preventative Maintenance:
- Perform and oversee routine maintenance on company vehicles, trailers, and small engine equipment.
- Schedule and track regular service intervals to prevent breakdowns.
- Ensure all equipment is in safe working condition before use.
Repairs:
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues efficiently.
- Repair or replace parts for trucks, trailers, and landscaping equipment as needed.
- Ensure quick turnaround times to minimize equipment downtime.
Record Keeping:
- Maintain accurate logs of all maintenance, repairs, and parts used.
- Keep track of fleet vehicle registrations and ensure compliance with local regulations.
- Monitor inventory levels and order necessary parts.
Supervisory Duties:
- Supervise and mentor the mechanic’s assistant, delegating tasks as needed.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure all maintenance work meets company standards.
- Communicate with management about equipment status and repair needs.
Shop Organization:
- Keep the shop clean, orderly, and well-stocked with necessary tools and supplies.
- Properly store equipment and parts to maintain an efficient workspace.
- Implement organizational systems to improve workflow and efficiency.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a mechanic, preferably with small engine and fleet vehicle maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of gasoline engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues quickly and effectively.
- Experience managing or mentoring other team members is a plus.
- Excellent organizational skills to maintain an orderly shop.
- Valid driver’s license.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
- Some travel will be required and occasionally may require an overnight stay.
Salary : $20 - $25
