MEA Employees Posting Date December 9, 2024, 1:45 p.m. Closing Date December 11, 2024, 1:45 p.m. Department Line Crew Hourly Union Scale Grade Union Scale     Union Representation Outside Hours of Work 8AM-4:30PM Work Location Eagle River, AK   PURPOSE This position carries out the construction, operations, and maintenance of both overhead and underground electrical transmission and distribution systems.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION 1. Constructs and maintains energized distribution of transmission lines and related equipment by doing all ordinary work safely and without special supervision. 2. Reads and interprets maps, specifications, staking sheets, and complex diagrams. Understands all circuits used on the system within the work area assigned and recognizes applicable safety requirements. 3. Installs and connects all line equipment, single and multi-phase, following diagrams furnished by engineering personnel if needed. 4. Inspects work after completion to make certain it has been done properly and in accordance with applicable specifications and codes. 5. Maintains knowledge of the considerable hazards that exist in falling objects, falls, electric shock, electric flash, and automobile and equipment operations. Will be familiar with the proper use of protective and safety equipment. 6. Completes work assignments safely and within reasonable time frame, while keeping cost of labor and material within accepted limits. 7. Maintains working knowledge of the most up-to-date and effective techniques of first aid and respiration, including pole-top rescue. 8. Acts as Foreman or Subforeman on temporary assignments, provided incumbent has a talent for leadership and the ability for supervising. 9. Trains and provides guidance to apprentice lineman. 10. Maintains equipment assigned, or sees that it is maintained in good working condition, with particular emphasis on correcting conditions which might endanger self or others. 11. From time to time may be assigned to do inventory work for the Association. 12. Directs personnel of lesser grades as required. 13. Promotes a safety culture in which safety is a value. This culture is based on joint and individual engagement, ownership, and accountability regarding job safety and responsibility to perform work safely and adhere to safe work practices. 14. Performs the essential functions of the position in a safe and efficient manner.
